I love the win, and I'll take it however we can get it, but I'm glad it was us making plays at the very end and not just surviving our big lead.

We missed a couple of great opportunities at the end of the first half to put them away, or at least really deflate them. Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about, but I thought the defense played well last night. We forced 4 turnovers, and every one of their TD drives, except for the last one, required a 4th down conversion. There was as much luck on Georgia's side in staying in that game as there was 2nd half execution.

We have a ton to work on on both sides of the ball, but we are as good or better than anyone in the country if we stay focused.
No I agree the Defense was playing hard the whole game and making plays.

It was just a weird dynamic going on where because of the big lead Kirby and UGA went into full desperation mode for about the final 35-40 mins of gametime.

We came so close to stopping them several times but by the skin of their teeth they were converting 4th downs.

That's a crazy ask of your young D to face a Very Good Offense like UGA for that long with no reprieve via a punt or your own offense answering.

But our D was playing FAST and Aggressive and swarming to the ball. We almost forced several more Turnovers.

The secondary was especially impressive for a good 3 to 3.5 quarters.

I mean ...lol we had TF CBs out there on an island and our guys were breaking up passes right and left.

Sure we have some things to clean up team wise but as long as we keep getting better week to week we'll be a TOUGH out for any team.

After thinking this over early this morning I have come to a few take aways from this game.
  1. Georgia is a damn good football team, with good coaches, and talent at least equal to ours.
  2. Georgia was not ready for what happened to them in the first half and we were not prepared for what happened to us in the second half. Their staff made the better halftime adjustments.
  3. In spite of jumping to a 28-0 lead, it turned out to be a typical Alabama-Georgia physical, smash mouth game which I think everyone on Tidefans realistically expected.
  4. With the exception of Milroe, neither team had any semblance of a running game.
  5. There were incalculable big plays in this game, both offensively and defensively from both teams. I guess the real bottom line is that we made 1 more big play than Georgia.

I saw folks compare that to the 2004 game against LSU when Corey Webster? mugged Keith Brown? in the end zone and picked off Spencer Pennington without getting DPI. This wasn’t even close to that.
Yeah, against LSU, the receiver was calmly thrown out of the way and the ball caught by the DB.
In the UGA play, I think the UGA QB just threw that pass a bit too far inside. It was still a great play by Brown. If you're the offense, you just want that ball placed a little bit further to the outside.

For real though UGA has to just HATE us at this point.

We've beat them 9 out of 10 including....

2008 - Blackout Funeral
2012 - DAGGER from AJ to Coop - Kept them from winning a NC vs ND
2017/18 - 2nd and 26 - Took another NC away
2018/19 - Jalen off the Bench and Killed their hopes AGAIN
2023 - Ruined a 3-peat
2024 - Let them get tantalizingly close to getting revenge and snatched it away again.

Therapists in Georgia have to be earning crazy money listening to them vent.

I couldn't understand why the coach talking to him through the helmet wasn't telling him to burn clock. He could have easily used up over a minute in the next to last drive.
thats not our offense......its all predicated on pace......to me thats where we got outcoached. uga made serious adjustments at the half and coach deboar forgot how to get milroe in a groove and more importantly settle him down a bit

but Bama won the game.....roll tide!!

The adjustments Kirby made, was putting 2 men out to cover the outside where we had huge success in the first half. It worked, and stopped our outside plays. But I didn't see any compensation for that by Bama. There didn't seem to be any plan B for Kirby making adjustments like that. But then, I'm not an X and O person.

Alabama also backed off the extra pressure in the second half, almost playing prevent defense. Should have worked, but GA converted every 4th down opportunity. That was freakishly impossible, but it happened. GA did everything right in the second half, until Alabama did Alabama things.

This.

There were so many improbable things going so perfectly right for Georgia in this game that it started to feel like one of those team-of-destiny types of wins that people - not just fans of that school - talk about for years.

It felt like UGA was unstoppable and their victory was inevitable.

That is, until we snatched victory from the jaws of defeat and took destiny into our own hands.

A lot of opposing fans shed an involuntary tear as they went to bed, realizing what they'd actually witnessed - that Bama is still Bama.

Every Barn fan alive has dreamt for their entire life about the day Bama would no longer be Bama. In the 80s and then the late-90s/early-2000s many convinced themselves it had actually happened but those were just blips.

With Saban's retirement, those dreams were rekindled. Finally, Bama would fade into nothing and go away.

But, as one dear friend of our sport is fond of saying, "Not so fast, my friend!"...

The tale of two halves. I hope we don't take our foot off the gas in the second half ever again. We have to play to win, not playing to stop a loss. I know adjustments were made, but keep the big plays coming coach DeB.
