Re: Former Penn St. DC arrested for sexual assault of a minor

It's now being disclosed Paterno has lung cancer. I wonder if this would've been publicly announced this soon if not for the scandal. I wish no ill health to anyone but the timing is rather curious...

I said when they fired him, he would be dead within a year...and I only said that because he's been doing this for so long and suddenly, he's reduced to sitting at home.
Call me cynical, but his son releases this info, of treatable lung cancer no less - a week after this news breaks?

yeah, i guess I'm a cynic as well. first thing that popped into my head is it was released simply to garner sympathy for a man who's reputation has, more or less, been irrevocably harmed

guess that tells you how much I believe anything put forth by a Paterno these days

Re: Former Penn St. DC arrested for sexual assault of a minor

It was just diagnosed the other day so I dont find anything suspicious with the timing. I wish him all the best in dealing with his medical problems.

Re: Former Penn St. DC arrested for sexual assault of a minor

Paterno ought to get the chance to explain what he knew, and what he did or did not do in response to Sandusky's behavior, under oath, in a court of law.

If he dies of cancer, the victims would be deprived of his testimony, and they dserve to hear what he would have to say.

He's 84. Sandusky's attorney would question his recollection of certain events. He doesn't seem to be the sharpest tool in the shed.

they are following the auburn model- deflect from a scandal by issuing a press release concerning some half dead old thing.

Re: Former Penn St. DC arrested for sexual assault of a minor

84 years old with a diagnosis of lung cancer, I'll give him some sympathy since we still dont know all the details of this.

From what I hear, folks who frequent the local barber shop there have known about Sandusky and his proclivities for many years.

many pages back I mentioned that it was well known locally Paterno would use his administration and the local police to cover up misdeeds from his football team. I knew about the players busting through a kid's apartment to beat him up and it's just a matter of time until another story I know about involving his boy Jay slamming his car into a tree while driving hammered, comes out

Look at the dates. Those were the "tough" times for Joe Pa when the PTB wanted him gone.

i am constantly amazed that we dont see stories of athletes getting shot and killed when they pull dumb crap like that.

Speaking of which....

A teenager who fatally shot a gay classmate in the back of the head during an Oxnard middle school computer lab will spend 21 years in prison under a plea deal reached Monday, closing the books on a case that drew international headlines and ignited debate on how schools should handle sexual identity issues.
...Students and teachers at the trial testified that King had been dressing in women's accessories and wearing makeup, and was flirting aggressively with male students on campus who did not want the attention.

But it's a different story with activity that we all used to consider "normal".
Online Dish: School Calls Cops on 12-Yr-Olds Caught Kissing on Playground
Is kissing a sex crime? A Florida elementary school administrator called police after a girl kissed a boy, and he liked it.

I know both of these are slightly off-topic, but together they beg a very important question. Is this country screwed up, or what?

Sandusky's defense is that these kids lied about him when they got sick of him pushing them to reach their goals?

goodness :(

Denial and distortions go hand in hand. Sociopaths distort reality to meet their own ends, and it's common for them to make it the victim's fault. Surely you don't expect him to 'fess up and take total responsibility for his own actions, do you? Because that's not going to happen. No way. No how.
