Re: SECCG Postgame

Congrats to both teams for a great game. I'm so disappointed we didn't win but that doesn't diminish the quality of the season we've just had. 12 - 1 isn't chopped liver. Had we been in a wimpy conference like the Big X or Pac 10 we would have already been in the NC game. That's why the SEC is such a tough conference. Florida will be a worthy representative for the SEC in the NC game.

On to the Sugar Bowl. They said something about Ohio State will be the opponent in the Sugar and not Utah. I think I prefer OSU.

Re: SECCG turning point

I think the turning point happened when we were ahead 20-17 and UF was driving. Hightower made a tackle which should have created a 4th down. Instead, the ref said he grabbed his facemask, which the replay clearly showed he did not. His left hand was on the running backs shoulder pad, but he did not grab his face mask. It was a very bad call, but those happen from time to time. After that point, UF made all the plays that counted. Tebow is just a solid player all around, and UF has athletes to spare. We just do not have enough bullets in the gun, yet. Saban still needs a few more recruiting classes to have the same amount of talent that UF has. I'll take our coaching staff over any in the country, however. Roll Tide. Let's win the Sugar Bowl.
I think the turning points (2) were earlier in the game. When Tiffen got a finger in the eye on a previous play and we did the fake FG and bombed. The second was the bonehead play by Arenas. Those both cost us serious field position and points.
However, I cannot complain. I'm really proud of our guys and can't wait to see who we play in the Sugar Bowl.

Yeah, I caught that, teamplayer. You have good eyes. Announcers made no comment. Is that not reviewable. A replay would have cleared that up, IMO. Hightower's fingers would have been able to curl backward, for him to accomplish that feat.

Re: SECCG Postgame

Well played Alabama. No mistakes on their part. They are an awesome team, and I take nothing away from them.

That face-mask penalty was huge.
yeah we had them stopped. I think the ballgame changed on that penalty. It was a good call though. I don't like the new facemask rule. all are 15yd penalties. I think it is a bad rule change. granted he wouldve had a 1st down anyway as they had less than 5yds for a 1st. but the rule in general is bad in my opinion. I also feel the same about the new horse collar penalty. I don't like it either. I understand it to a point, but the one rashaud got was not worthy of a 15yd penalty. but you can't call it part of the time. under the letter of the law it was a good call. i just think there needs to be a little leway, and not make it a horse collar penaly but just an un necessary ruffness penalty on the really bad ones. those 2 and the new clock rules i don't like at all. an inadvertent facemask is not worth 15yds. anyway ill get off my soapbox.
we played good. better season than i ever expected. lets go win our bowl game and another recuiting national championship. with the players we are pilling up we will be very dangerous in the years to come. this is only the beginning

Re: SECCG Postgame

I'm so proud of these guys. 12-1 was beyond my expectations for this season. This team is a playmaker at QB away from being there. We were doing great and things just kinda unwraveled. Chin up, nothing to be ashamed of. Time to take the extra practice and prepare for destroying Utah and picking up right where we left off this year.

Re: SECCG Postgame

Our guys played well and have nothing to be ashamed of. We still have a lot of youth and there is no substitute for maturity.
As already mentioned, we had two plays that really hurt us; Javy catching that ball on the three yard line really flipped the field and led to a gator score. The facemask penalty hurt the most, but he did put his hand on the facemask, so it was a good call.

Even though we had those mistakes, I still think we could have won if we had focused on the run game in the fourth quarter. It looked as if we had them on the ropes and was wearing down their defensive front. But, Florida did a great job of rushing JPW on the pass plays and once we got in that mode, it was all downhill. Maybe the coaches saw something that I did not recognize and thought we could pass our way into the endzone, but JPW just did not have time to find receivers.

Is is what it is and we will live to play another day. No way they would have won this without Tiebow. He is a game changer. It hurts to say that, but true.

The future is bright. We will be back.

Re: SECCG Postgame

After all of the years of hearing the Gator chomp, it took until tonight as I sat in the Georgia Dome for it to dawn on me that maybe I should write the following letter:

Dear Mr. Foley,

"Jaws" was a movie about a shark. Not an alligator. Just wanted to eliminate that bit of apparent confusion that you seem to have with your vertebrate taxonomy.

Sincerely,

Mr. Speilberg

P.S. John Williams agrees with me.

That having been said, I am so proud of this group of guys. Sad, but proud!

Re: SECCG Postgame

A great effort fell a little short but it takes nothing away from the accomplishment of this team. Tebow is a great college player but was incredibly mediocre in third and long which I expect will translate to the next level

Re: SECCG Postgame

I hate that we lost but I am very proud of the players and staff for a great season. 12-1 and going to the Sugar Bowl ain't bad. It could be worse.

As for the game. When you play a ball control offense you have to score td's not fg's when you're in the red zone. On the Gator missed fg we really needed to score six not three. The facemask penalty killed us along with Arenas' stepping out of bounds. Also not being able to throw the ball to any other wr other than Julio killed us in the 4th qtr. Gary Danielson said it over and over (and he was right) JPW automatically looks directly at JJ when the ball is snapped. There were several camera angles on replays that showed other receivers wide open. This irks me beyond belief but oh well. Ain't nothing I can do about it.

It was a great year. I'm ready for the Sugar Bowl but more than that I'm ready for 2009. ROLL TIDE!!!

Re: SECCG Postgame

Just got back from the game and i am proud of our team and our fans as well!! The Bama crowd was loud and acted a lot better than some of the gator fans i was around. I think i hate thier fanbase as much as i do uts. This has been a great year!

We are exactly where we want to be.....competing for championships. As Coach Saban continues to recruit and teach, we will win some of these.

Re: SECCG Postgame

My take on the game is this:

They wouldn't call a "intentional grounding" call on Tim Tebow---my mom is still mighty upset about that call by will call a "incidental face mask" on Don'ta Hightower?

I don't want to be "That guy," but come on.......

I don't believe Tebow is a great player, and I don't believe Florida played at a "higher" level. They were given a couple more breaks then Alabama, and they capitalize on them. Nothing more/nothing less.

With that said, I do believe we are the better team 6 days a week, unfortunately on the 7th day of the week, Florida turn out to be the better team. Oh well, it happens.

Re: SECCG Postgame

It took all 4 to get it done. I sure am proud of our young men and what the coaches have instilled in them.

They aren't perfect for sure, but nearly as perfect as you could be with the youth and turmoil they've endured from HC - to OC's . Boy does the future look bright. :BigA:

We needed Florida to help us just a little bit - and they ddn't. THey probably played their most sound game of the year.

We're close. Not Mike Shula's kind of cose. DOMINATING close.
