Ok, who stole Shula's Cahones????

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

It's not a Catch-22. It's not a double-edged sword. The move is to go for it on 4th and 1 at the 38. If we had pinned them deep when we punted, held them, received the ball back and scored a TD to win the game, it would've still been the wrong move to punt. It wasn't even that tough of a decision.

No.....The point is you go for it make it or not! If you do not make it you are not a dumb coach just a coach with confidence in your team. The only sin is not to try,not to fail to try.I would bet 90% of the time in that situation the other SEC teams coach would go for it....also it was more like 1 1/2 foot not A FULL YARD. i WAS UPSET AT THE TIME OF THE CALL...NOT THE RESULT! I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN UPSET IF WE FAILED TO MAKE IT. I just wish we would have tried. I still think we had other problems that can be coached ie holding on and face mask flags on the punt return team. Also fielding punts inside the 10,not calling fair catches etc.jmo

I don't know if it's just me, but why does CMS always look like Deer caught in headlights??? Plus, he plays so conservatively it makes me ill. He needs to get a clue when you are behind and on the opponents 37 with 4th and 1....GO FOR IT DUDE!!!!!!! For God's sake, grow a spine and take some chances....Ok, end of rant....Overall, the running game looks great and the offensive line are hosses!!!....come on Tide, suck it up and go out and win the next 3 games......

He's gottem, given some time they'll drop all the way down and we'll be fine!

I agree with you here. We played for field position one time too many.
This is something the staff will have to learn from, and hopefully they will.

Do you remember last year when we played Oklahoma? We were playing pretty good defense and had just held Oklahoma to a three and out. It was fourth down. Bob Stoops was on the road and the momentum was changing slightly to our favor. We were on all out punt block...Bob Stoops took a chance on the road (they were only leading by a field goal) and called a fake punt. They got the first down and called deep sideline pass play on first down and scored the game winning go ahead TD.

I wanted to show how critical a call that was, and how you have to make those calls on the road. Especially when (as in Alabama's case Saturday) the other team cannot stop your running game. We were running at will and I know we would have made fourth and a half yard.

Game changing call? Momentum changing call? On the road and running at will. This was the call for Leron and Tim, or a toss sweep to Hudson. We will need to make those kinds of calls in the future. My point is...you play to win, instead of playing not to lose.

The turning point in the game WAS NOT 4th and 1. It was the 6+ minute drive by Arkansas in the fourth quarter.

Punting on 4th and 1 wasn't a bad call. It was the call some of you didn't want called. If Hudson hadn't slipped on 3rd down, it wouldn't be an issue. If the punt had been downed inside the 5 it wouldn't be an issue. But I CAN GUARANTEE it would be an issue if Coach Shula had gone for it and NOT MADE the first down.

We head 3 coaches with Head Coaching Experinece, Kines, Raider, and Woods, they should have the experience to know when to go for it, not something they have to learn.
I agree with others," If we are going to lose, let's try try to win."
Let's go down trying, not playing Vanilla.
:biga2:

I believe this horse is rotting. Let's stop beating it and concentrate on the 'cocks.

BTW, there is no guarantee that we get the first down, get a score, or don't make another mistake. It's the mistakes that cost the game.

People still to this day question Mark Richt's play calling

People still to this day question Jimbo Fisher's play calling

People back in the day questioned Steve freakin Spurrier's play calling

The coach is never right when it doesn't work and expected to call it when it does.

Saint Deuces' post is agood one.If we are to do well thius year,we need a good passing attack. The punt on fourthand one was areal bad call.Behind in the 4th quarter, the ball in enemy territory and one yard for a first down. Not to go for it makes no sense at all.
