Ole Miss vs BYU Predictions

Just like Jacksonville State last year. I might have been a bit wide with the point differential, but I still see them dropping this one. But as long as they win the party, all will be well on the Grove.

BYU runs a modified version of the Air Raid and returns quite a few starters, including an experienced QB. They'll give the Ole Miss defense fits - the Rebs struggled last year in pass defense and looking at the personnel they'll field this season I don't really think that will change.

Conversely, I just don't think the BYU defense fields the caliber of athletes defensively to matchup with an SEC offense, even a mediocre one like Ole Miss. In other words, this should be a high-scoring affair.

I think BYU has a better coaching staff and a more experienced squad, but the Rebs have better overall talent and Houston Nutt tends to thrive when his back is against the wall. This one could really go either way and I think it largely depends on how many plays the Ole Miss defense makes. I think BYU will win in the neighborhood of 35-31.

Thanks for the rundowns of what BYU returns. I think I caught pieces of 2 or 3 games last year and don't pay em mind/care to little to look it up online! ;)

I think something people forget about Bronco Mendenhall, derogatory SEC coaches pay comments aside, is his teams play a physical brand of football. Also much like Notre Dame used to they get their pick of virtually every Mormon on the face of the earth. Don't underrate their D, I have no understanding of how good their personnel is but generally they're boise st/Utah tough... not as good, but play a tough brand and don't back down. In this way they remind me of Miss State D under Sherrill/Dunn. They play super rough, just to the line and within the rules.

OM is up against it.

I think Ole Miss does have a chance to win the game, but I really think BYU will be just too much.. I just hope it doesn't get ugly for Ole Miss..

As an aside... While only a few points separates the two teams in terms of point spread. This has to be the largest margin OM has been favored by to win 'the party' by in a long time! :) OM has to be a 110 point favorite to win the party at least!

Regardless of what happens, I don't think Nutt gets canned this year. IIRC, he has a 6 mil buyout and I don't see Ole Miss forking over that kind of money so they can over-pay a sub par coach to come to their less than illustrious football program (again).

Having said that, OM has a better chance of beating BYU than UGA has of beating Boise State.

I think Georgia wins. The game simply means to much to them and if they can't pull it off they're going to have a looooooong season.

I have to agree that I think Georgia wins....I think they have too much depth on the defensive side of the ball...and I also love AAron Murray at QB.

I dont think it will be a rout, but I do think that the Dawgs will wear them down over 4 quarters.

Also, I like LSU over Oregon...more physical, and also depth.

Ole Miss, ...well, thats another story...I think they're still in rebuilding mode...and the confusion theyve had over QB the last couple years only adds to it...
they need to recruit a QB and develop him.

Still, I wouldnt be suprised if they won the game.
