Oregon DC upset with Mike Leach

Good grief! How do we get this back on track. The discussion was not about running up the score. That's a deflection and you injected that. The discussion was about your DC complaining about the audacity of the opponent's actually trying to SCORE BY PASSING. Do you understand how dumb that sounds? So all of Oregon's opponents are supposed to bend over and quit trying? Last night, the our 1st stringers were begging to be put back in to preserve the shutout. The only one who stayed in was CJ, the defensive play-caller. Our 4th and 5th stringers preserved the shutout and our 5th string true freshman RB scored the last TD on a bounce-out after the middle clogged. Of course, he's 240, 6'5" and has 4.4 speed, but that's not the point. You just don't even seem to grasp the central point. You had a coach complaining about the other team trying to score. We just expect it. We'd be insulted if they didn't...

Yep. To help get it back on track I agree with you. Our DC behaved very foolishly. I don't want to see the other teams give up and not play their best even in the 4th quarter. The DC's attitude is his alone, I'm sure the players are glad WSU brought some heat in the 4th quarter even if they had no chance to win. He was just smarting from the poor defensive showing we made last night. It was a very off game for us and I know it made the DC very angry. He should have refrained from ranting because it invites ridicule from other programs.

The main issue of this thread is the whining of the Oregon DC, and it sounds like our Oregoinan friend does not disagree with our assessment.

Mike Leach is no idiot - he knows when some guy is running his mouth and looking like a fool the best course of action is to step back and LET HIM.

Exactamundo! When you're unhappy with your defensive unit then, you make bare your unhappiness with them. Sometimes it helps. What you don't do is to express unhappiness with the other team for showing you up. TBF, it was one of the stranger remarks I've ever heard made by a coordinator. The first impression is that he's miffed for being exposed...

Your observations are of course correct. No disagreement there. Where we see things differently is in the motive.
. It's more important to get them used to the system and let them run with it than to pull out all the stops so as not to embarrass the other team. Nichols State knew why they were there and they had no problem with it. They were there for the pay, and they were there for Oregon to practice on and get warmed up for the season, to work out the kinks. If teams like Georgia didn't keep canceling their home and home series with us, we would be playing better teams instead of scrounging around for whatever team we can find to take their place at the last minute.

In this same regard, shouldn't he be happy his defensive scrubs are out there getting baptized by fire? Does he want them just to play against a team that will run straight up the gut and punt? One day these guys will be on the field right?

One of these days when Oregon is down there could be some payback for the 50+ scores. Usually, what goes around comes around and it will be deserved.

You play to win but not embarrass the opponent. Now you can't stop a landslide if the landslide has the walk-ons and trainers playing.

I like the way Coach Saban does things. I think Coach Bryant had that same philosophy and he was a great philosopher. However, he even had a landslide against Cal one year.

It's hard to try to get a 4th of 5th string running back to just lay down instead of smelling the end zone from 80 yards away and playing to the best of his/their ability.

Agree. The poor defensive showing was primarily his fault, he needs to take the blame .

That's why he said what he did & made himself look foolish for criticizing Leach, instead of taking the blame like most coaches do, he throws a temper tantrum" that makes him look whiny..You are a good guy for not defending him..I wouldn't either if it were a Bama coach that had done it either..I respect ya for that..

Just amazes me how arrogant not only the duck fans are but their coaching staff. If you didn't know any better you'd think they'd have won three out the last four national titles.

This is why I like Coach Saban's practice of not letting assistants talk to the media. Guy ran his mouth, then apologized through the school rather than in person. Sorta like your mom and dad apologizing for you. Still looks bad, no matter how you slice it.

Hopefully, he learns from it.
