Re: Pat Dye on Finebaum Now

Direct Dye quote, "He ain't gotta an agent, he ain't repsentin' Gene Chizik!"

He also called Barkley a child and said Charles was uninformed and spoke out of a lack of information (did NOT know ALL the facts).

Think Barkley will hit Dye in the mouth? He's done it for a lot a less. Maybe he'll just spit on Dye.
Dye says he hasn't talked to anyone, doesn't want to know anything.....then accuses Barkley of a "lack of information." :conf2:

Re: Pat Dye on Finebaum Now

From one of his interviews Jimmy Sexton said "People have this old-fashioned notion of agents that they get a 10 percent cut. You do get a percentage, but it's not 10 percent. The maximum in football is three percent and the maximum in basketball is four percent. But nobody's complaining."
Thanks! WOW!!!

3% of Saban, Tuberville, Spurrier, Butch Davis, Fulmer, Parcells, Nutt, and other coaches.

He also represents Switzer and Spencer Tillman.

In the NFL he has Isaac Bruce, Croyle, Bradie James, Peyton Hillis, Phillip Rivers, Chris Samuels, DeAngelo Williams, & Jason Whitten.

He's getting 3 & 4% of all these guys and many-many others? DANG, I'm in the wrong end of this business. BTW, I love the story on how he got started when Reggie White just told people that Sexton was his agent and Sexton was only 20 years old. He has been so good at it that he did not finish his education by attending law school. According to the story all he has is a BS in Political Science. All I can say is WOW!!!

Re: Pat Dye on Finebaum Now

"There is a Gator Nation. There is a Bama Nation. But Auburn is a family." ~Pat Dye

This is corporate talk when an organization wants you to feel part of something that you are actually not very apart of. It's crap talk.

I am a Bama fan. I like people who root for Bama. However, you are not my family. I don't think that will hurt anybody's feelings on here. I don't think CNS will disagree. I don't think the team will disagree.
One question for you, and please don't take it the wrong way. Are you an alumnus?

Auburn fans are a family, and they're also the best example of what happens when you marry within the family.

I believe everyone is taking P Dyes words wrong. IMO,what he means by Aubarn family is that most are related due to inbreeding, where other schools just have many fans that don't inbreed..

I won't take it the wrong way. I'm not an alum. I realize that alum's probably feel differently. I have an alma mater, so I get it. And I am sure that team mates feel like brothers. However, I do not feel like I am a part of a big ol' family by being a fan.

My criticism of Dye is that his words are corporate mumbo jumbo. I have heard that kind of crap at jobs and even schools. He is trying to rally the troops by using that language when the "family" is obviously divided and not acting much like a family (or maybe too much like one).

Again, I like Bama fans, however I do not consider Bama fans kinfolk just b/c we support the same team/university.

I hear ya. Sounds like the people I work for. WE ARE A TEAM! Except, of course, when Saturday overtime is scheduled; then only "some" of us are rowing the boat and "they" are doing whatever people do on Saturday when they have the day off.

I worked sixteen Saturdays in a row, while the mid and upper level "team" had sixteen Saturdays off. Sorry if I sound bitter just because I had to miss some Bama games on T.V. I AM BITTER and hate it when I am told I am part of a TEAM only when it suits the BOSS.

Any way, Tubs was part of the TEAM until they took a plane to Louisville. Some team, huh?

Call me a dissenter, but I agree that they are "family" of a sort, unlike any other I know of. Of course, it's a defective family, bound together by paranoia and persistent feelings of inferiority. Remember that their most popular premium board is called "The Bunker." I think that says it all right there. My BIL is a fairly prominent AU grad, honorary doctorate from there, but he's not your typical barner at all. He pulls for their FB team, and he and I heckle each other, good-naturedly, but it's never interfered with our relationship. He tells me that, in the many meetings he's been involved in with the AU PTB, the paranoia always arises - the topic comes up as to how they're going to break the death grip Bama has on the state in every way imaginable. He recognizes the paranoia and doesn't buy into it. The vast majority of their fans believe Bama cheats and always has, even in instances where it would be totally illogical to do so. And a fair-sized minority believes that anything they do, including cheating, is justified. If you cite their many probations to them, why those were all instances of where we framed them. Yep, they're "family" all right...

His statement that that Gator fans and Bama fans are "nations" but they are a "family" also seems to be admitting to the fact their fan base is a small, regional group as opposed to the huge, national following of programs such as UF and Bama.

This is similar to the idea they promote that you can't be a true fan of a program unless you're an alum. They're simply trying to deflect from the fact that not many people that aren't Barn alumni (or blood relatives of alumni) really want to be a fan of that program.

There's a nursing home calling Pat Dye's name. Hey, maybe he could stay at the same one that that woman who wrote " To Kill a Blackbird" wrote. LMAO:biggrin:

Re: Pat Dye on Finebaum Now

Go back and listen to Finebaum's analysis of what Dye said and why he said it immediately after Dye left. He said that Dye was trying to rally Auburn fans together by attacking Alabama so that they would stop attacking Auburn! He is trying to stop the immediate bleeding by an act of misdirection.

When people act on anger and hatred the mind is shut down and people are easily led. For my entire life I have seen with many what I have called "the Auburn mentality." It has been described here as "the little brother mentality." I do believe that Dye and the Lowder bunch will succeed in the short term with this tactic. Unfortunately they will only see it come back with a greater force if they continue their losing ways.

What does sadden me the most is what Lowder and company has done to Auburn as an educational institution. I have heard from several professors at Auburn of how easily this gang on the BOT has destroyed lives. They will keep their control as long as they can shut down the minds through anger of those who have made Auburn football their god.

In the end Auburn fans are going to receive that which they despise the most. They are going to be the laughingstock of not only the state but the nation for years to come.
In other words, people will see that Auburn is, well...Auburn, even all the way up here in our state. They are run like the Oakland Raiders, with Jay Jacobs and company showing the sanity and thought process of an Al Davis.

Well said. I know an Aubie grad who hasn't missed a home game in thirty something years, and goes to most road games as well. You just described him, except for the "good natured" part. He hates Bama to the point of getting ill when Bama wins a big game. I work with him. After the Vandy game he has been avoiding me. He stays holed up in his office and won't come out. On the rare occasion when I run into him going to lunch his only comment for weeks has been, "I don't want to talk about football." Sad to let a game affect your life to that point.

Family? How about Clan, or Cult? The Brisco Darling "clan" of The Andy Griffith show?
