I'm still trying to figure. I just can't think of too many dads who would, especially voluntarily (pun intended), leave a school their son is actively playing at for any amount of money or notoriety, most would put their son first and want to be there with him to share that experience.

I think of this a little differently. Sunseri evidently had Vinnie's best interests at heart, because he didn't bring him to UT with him.

He also has another son who's the starting QB for Pittsburgh. Plus it's not always easy to be a coach on a team your son is on especially on the same side of the ball.

Ironically, part of it seems to be winning a NC, we all move our expectations through the stratosphere and expect Saban to keep working his magic with the increasing restraints the SEC placed on signing kids.

I read what UT people had to say about LT and they almost universally were unhappy to see him go. They didn't bash him on the way out (like a lot of us did) and they didn't seem to be claiming he will do poorly at Alabama.

As far as the Taylor situation, our fans that are bashing Saban over that really should grow up. Let's get this clear, a kid wavers on his commitment, suffers an injury that jeopardizes his ability to perform, and Saban offers him a greyshirt and we act as though it's a crime? Since when is a coach obligated to stick with injured goods? That's like telling me I have to buy a car I said I would, even though it got wrecked before the deal was finalized. It's not Saban's fault Taylor got hurt and we all know the "you shop, we shop" policy.

So now, because all Saban did was rebuild the Alabama program, and win 2 NCs in 5 years at Alabama... he's now raised our standards to the point we can second guess what he does with his hires and recruiting. I don't care what LT did in his personal life as long as it was legal. I do care that some people think Saban should be obligated to fully honor a scholarship offer to someone that suffered a serious injury. We expect him to work magic now, but we expect him to do it on our terms...

I haven't been here as long as some others, but I have yet to see Earle whiff one. He's been off-target only once (we all were, and we weren't "wrong"), but when Earle posts, I read.
He's the kinda guy you'd want in your crew on a week-long hiking/camping trip up (or down) the Appalachian Trail, because of the stories he could tell...

I wonder if Lance first told Saban he would be interested if offered, or if Saban approached Lance to see if there was any interest.

One would think the numbers on his contract would be a good indicator.

I wouldn't be surprised if a few of the H.S. coaches in Mobile were some of the people who wanted to see CLT return to Bama. He had really good relationships with some of the coaches who turn out a lot of the talent in the Mobile area. Not sure these coaches have developed the same relationship with Pruitt. I don't think Saban would rehire CLT for his coaching ability - lots of candidates with equal or better abilities in that area; it would clearly be for his ability to recruit. Someone said something about wanting a new hire who would have "fire in his belly.". I think CLT, if given the opportunity, will work harder and more energetically than he ever has - he has a lot to prove.

I've heard all about how CLT is a great recruiter but a poor position coach. I say pfffft. How many people on this board actually know how good of a position coach he really is. Apparently, CNS must think he's pretty good at what he does. So, let's hear some evidence of why he's not a good position coach. I think some people read a MB post that says he can't coach and jumps on that band wagon without really knowing at all.

So flame away.
