If we go far this year it's going to prove he rated our DBs correctly and underrated our QB and slightly underrated our WRs.

Penn State should be pretty good. The schedule is so easy. They can only possibly lose to two teams, Oregon and OSU, and even if they lose both they will make the playoffs. Then they will lose in the playoffs.

Their schedule. Steele was on The Herd yesterday and he went over his top 5/10 and he basically said Penn St is sitting at #1 because of their schedule. They don't leave their stadium but twice in the first two months of the season and Oregon has question marks at the QB position. They also had to replace other top talent so he feels like Penn St, with their returning players is the favorite for that game. Outside of the Oregon game, they have a cakewalk the first two months of the season.

Yeah, but that’s not how rankings work. You should rank them based on how good they actually are, not how easy their schedule is. That kind of stuff drives me crazy.

Some of these are absolutely wild. For starters, there are NOT 35 better QBs than Ty. Also, there is only one school that can possibly say they have a better WR room than we do (OSU). Thirdly, our OL is supposed to be the best in the country according to a lot of people, and our secondary IS the best in the country.

When you start getting into people's pre season rankings they all use different criteria. It's why I think they're all meaningless.

This is the biggest flaw in all the rankings....pre season props up mediocre teams by allowing a win over a pre-season ranked opponent to mean something...when in fact that team was over-rated from the start....

This is true.

Plus the CFBPC are flawed humans who at least subconsciously allow the AP and Coaches poll to affect how they rank teams too.

Too many poll voters don’t even watch enough of the games if they watch at all and then rank them by who knows what method.

So you have the blind influencing the blind.

Look at last years Final Regular Season Rankings.

The Top 5 are exactly the same and almost the Top 10 save for a few spots.





If it weren’t for all the stupid ranking and seeding guidelines last season the rankings going into the playoffs would have been almost the same.

In the end two things are true.

1) The CFBPC is swayed by and influenced by the Polls all year so they do matter

2) For the Seedings in the Final Selection the CFBPC just makes things up to create specific matchups even contradictory to what they’ve said the previous weeks so then the Polls don’t matter.

He isn’t calling Ty the 36th best quarterback in the nation he is saying “unit” meaning the quarterback group. Which if you objectively look at it then you start to realize that we are looking at 2 meaningful quarters and less than 10 backup quarters amongst 3 guys. So it’s not that unfounded of an assessment when pretty every team he ranked ahead of us has multiple transfer quarterbacks, returning starters, and upper classmen as their 1 and 2s.

As far as our WR rankings… who cares if it’s within the top 10.

Dabo and Clemson are rated highly because of Klubnick having experience and both their OL and DL appear to be rated very highly this year again.

I’ve seen Klubnick projected as the first QB off the board in next year’s NFL draft. Good QB? Yeah sure. Top QB in CFB .. I just don’t see it. Tell me what I am missing . Other than a multi year starter, nothing about him screams star.

He didn’t call him the 36th quarterback. He called the group the 36th. Meaning that if Ty gets hurt or benched that there isn’t anything but blind faith in two guys who have never taken a meaningful snap in college football and just a few garbage time snaps.

I think many of yall just don’t understand what Phil Steele does. He is writing for betting people who want an edge on potential scenarios. I really don’t see much of an issue with the 36th ranking when you consider everyone’s back ups and starters.
