I think I might have seen that in peewee football. I'm not sure exactly how that works...who blitzes or what...but to me it looks like Memphis had no respect for OM's running game. Do you know what it is Terry?

That's your typical 1-2-2-1-5 defensive alignment. It is primarily used to totally confuse either the opponent or the team running that alignment. Considering Memphis fired Joe Lee Dunn, I think I know who got confused........

If you've ever played backyard football, it should look familiar.

If you've ever played organized football, it should look like the DC is clueless.

Seriously, I can't tell if it's a 1-4-6 or a 1-6-4. I hope to God it wasn't third and two!

That's the "I've had too many to drink and the game has passed me by" formation. Good grief, I to God they were out of alignment and this wasn't drawn up. If it was planned then Tommy Boy West didn't pull the trigger soon enough.

well on NCAA 2007... there is a defensive formation.. called the 1-5-5... so im assuming thats wut that is.... no clue why you would use it unless you are completely sure the offense is passing or you only have 1 defensive lineman..lol

From what I understand, it was the set they were using on every 1st down play...

Possibly, the only reason I wonder is the NG and the two DT's are set, 3-point stance at the snap with the T's a good 3-4 yards off the LOS.

Ya'll seem to have missed this. It's kinda like a vulcan mindmeld. The opposing teams offensive coordinator will see this and be so overwhelmed with laughter that his mind will explode. Kinda like the worlds deadliest joke Monty Python style defense.

Just playing devil's advocate here...

It looks as if the two players lined up behind the nose-guard are placed there to get a little extra speed rush against the offensive line. Instead direct contact against the offensive line, they have a few yards to build up some steam. You also have two linebackers playing the wings to probably take care of the tackles or what looks to be the tight-end on the right side of the offensive line. You then have two other linebackers behind them to probably pick up the run or control the middle.

You then have a standard secondary, although the deep safety is not shown in the picture. If I had to guess, it's an extreme version of the 3-4 - few people directly on the line but a lot in the middle to add speed against the rush.

Then again, I'm not a defensive coordinator, and I'm just guessing at this point.
