TBH, I don’t think that a lot of those who support sending people to El Salvadoran prisons would care one way or the other. The cruelty and dehumanization is a feature to some folks.
And I'm simply commenting on the incredible tone-deafness of either overhyping what's currently happening or under-representing the horrors of the Holocaust. Either way, these cartoonists must truly live in echo chambers. I expect most rational people find the comparison vapid at best.

I hope that most rational people aren’t hand-waving at the lack of due process as Trump deports people to mega-prisons in foreign countries. While I don’t think that what’s happening is equivalent to gas chambers (yet), the complete disregard for the law and judicial orders by the current administration tends to make most non-supporters wonder just how far they are willing to go. Trump has often labeled those who oppose him as criminals deserving of prison. Is it really that far-fetched to think he might send American citizens he doesn’t like to a foreign prison or camp where he can then abandon them by claiming a lack of legal authority? Maybe it’s time we make clear just how unacceptable Trump’s actions are by recalling what can happen when a dictator is allowed to flaunt the law, whether by his supporters or by those who choose to look the other way.

The point is unless / until we start seeing people killed, the incredible exaggeration via comparison is ridiculous.

To your point, I disagree with the assertion that any time someone in power disregards the law that's akin to mass-murdering millions of people, which is essentially what you're saying here. No one is being murdered in gas chambers or shot in the back of the head in front of a pit. While you can say 'yet', it's still true that it's NOT happening - and the comparison is an insult to the millions who suffered and died at the hands of the nazis.

The comparison is preposterous at this point as the continual comparisons to nazis, hitler, the Holocaust are quite frankly disgusting.

If things change, I'll happily call trump hitler 2.0 and rally against the evil, but at this point the comparison is, at best, hyperbole and an insult to those who actually faced that evil.

I’m not sure why you choose to assert that I equate jaywalking with genocide. I tend to hope that my posting history indicates that I’m not a complete moron, but apparently that’s not the case. So I’ll try to be as clear as possible: I think that a metaphor drawing a comparison between forcing people on boxcars en route to a concentration camp and putting people on airplanes headed to a foreign prison is absolutely valid, particularly when constitutional rights are being violated and the ultimate fate of the individuals is unknown. Do I think that Trump’s apparent disregard for the law and our courts is a dangerous thing, especially when it comes to due process? Absolutely, and I’m not particularly willing to sit quietly and wait to see how it all turns out. I can’t do much of anything about it, but I can at least speak up.

I do agree that this is the place for memes and cartoons, so let’s continue this discussion on another thread (if you’d like).

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Yeah, this gets trotted out every time the left wants to exaggerate anything...
