I couldn't find a thread like this, forgive me if this is a duplicate.

The obvious candidates right now are Kansas State, ND, and Oregon. If all 3 take a loss, then it is wide open.

Looking at schedules, I'd say the following:

- KSU: I'm not knocked out by their work so far, except for Oklahoma and WVU, which were nice wins. Their schedule seems back-loaded, and any one of Ok St, TCU, Baylor or Texas could beat them. If they win out, they deserve the slot. But they will probably lose one.

- ND: Some nice, consistent wins. The bulk of their schedule is already in the books. Their only remaining challenge is USC. They have the best chance of winning out.

- Oregon: They've played the weakest schedule of these 3 candidates so far, and they still have to beat USC, Stanford, and Ore St.

Since these teams do not play each other, I'll say if they all win out, KSU should get the slot. Between ND and Oregon, it is a tough call: Oregon will have the most recent quality wins, but ND is a voter favorite. It would probably be ND.

The bias FOR ND should not be discounted. With that said I woul love for us to get them but, I really don't care who it is as long as we make it to the show.

We still have A LOT of work left, so I hope we get there. With that said....

I think KSU would deserve it based on its resume.

However, from what I've seen thus far - and it's been a lot of football - I think Oregon passes the eyeball test and would be the team that gets in. They have the CCG, and I think they are simply better than ND or KSU. And, while ND has the best name, I don't think they'll get in without the conference championship game.

I think Oregon would be the toughest game for us. I think we would blow ND and KSU off the field.

Regardless of what the pundits think, college football remains such an emotional game, it is impossible to pick who will be in Miami playing for all the marbles. One thing that favors the Tide is the focus on every player individually doing his job, not trying to be the hero, but simply performing his assignment on every play.
Between KS, Oregon, or ND, there is a high probability that one of them will lose a game before the regular season ends. However, there is such a bias for ND, if they survive the regular season, they will be playing in Miami.

I want the Irish. We owe them for their (calm down Bill) in 66-73-74-77.

It would be nice to embarrass them with the whole world watchinv.

That said - lets get there and then whoever draws the short straw can worry about our disguised blitzes z

Alabama vs. Notre Dame would be huge! Possibly the highest rating for a BCS game ever.

ETA - KState would be a stinker as far as ratings are concerned.

Based on who Notre Dame has beaten and who they play, I think they deserve to go if they are undefeated. Notre Dame isn't out there scheduling scheduling the Western Carolina's of the world.

The problem is that we have the hardest road of any of these teams to get to the BCSCG. With LSU, A&M, and now UGA, thats 3 top 15 teams. Then the rivalry game with AU. I know AU stinks, but you can not overlook a rivalry game, sometimes strange things happen.

In decades past, sports media would get giddy and teary-eyed when writing about or voting for ND. IMO it wouldn't take much for the media to return to ND-worship. Accordingly, I always like to see ND pick up a few losses every season. That being said, if they run the table they have a legitimate claim to one of the BCSNC slots.

No way ANY team trumps an undefeated ND when the title game selections are made.

I agree that Alabama has the toughest row to hoe to get to the big game. Our schedule, too, is a bit back-loaded this year. I think an Alabama-ND title game would be a true modern classic, and that ND would be crushed.

We clearly have the toughest road.

IMO, Oregon clearly has the second toughest road and the benefit of the Pac 12 championship game. I think ND is left our regardless what people think the media will want. The ND argument may be moot anyway, because if USCw plays with some motivation, I think they'll beat ND.

Oregon still has:
at USC
at Cal
Stanford at home
at Oregon State
AND a conference championship game against a good team.

I doubt ND or KSU could get through that gauntlet.

Really? Why is everyone so in love with Notre Dames SOS? When it's broken down team by team it's really no better than ours. No they aren't playing the Western Carolina's of the world, but they are playing the Purdue's, Air Force's, and Navy's of the world. They play a lot of BCS conference opponents, but the vast majority of them are middle of the road, if not low end teams of their respective conferences. The exceptions are their rivalries with Michigan and USC, and recently their game against Stanford.

To put this into perspective, our common game was Michigan. For some reason, when people talk about our game with UM the discussion is about how overrated Michigan was, and how we still haven't been tested. When they talk about Notre Dame's game against Michigan, it's all about what a tough, hard fought win it was. Truth is, we dominated UM, Notre Dame survived them.

How about Notre Dame's tough game against Oklahoma, that's pretty impressive isn't it? We're playing LSU, who is roughly the same rank, and a much more competitive team than OU.

How about the brutal matchup of USC? USC has already lost 2 games this year to teams with half the talent that they have, and yet they are still viewed as a top opponent for ND? If you go by those standards, that would still make Michigan a top team, since they've lost to 2 top 5 teams this year, yet somehow, USC is given a free pass while UM is dismissed. When it's all said and done, Miss St is actually a fairly comparable team to USC, so I wouldn't give Notre Dame anything over us there either. I would still give USC the head to head advantage over MSU, so I will give a point to Notre Dame, however, USC isn't the powerhouse that the media would have you believe.

How about Stanford? They have a great team with a potent offense, their offense could own Bama's right? Negative, which we will see for a fact when the most comparable team in the SEC comes to BDS In TAMU. Advantage Bama

When you look at the rest of Notre Dame's schedule, it's really not that impressive. Michigan St is their Arkansas, a grossly overrated team who has since tanked. BYU is their Tennessee, a young team with talent, but who is not a serious contendor. Then we have the SEC championship game, and I don't think I even have to say anything to make my point here.

In Summary, no they aren't playing Western Carolina, Western Kentucky, or any of the other FCS equivalent teams, but don't think for a minute that they don't play some cupcakes. However, if they played a real conference schedule instead of a hodgepodge, you'd start to see those FCS opponents making their way into South Bend fairly regularly.

*Rant off*
