The saddest thing for me is that I wasn’t even mad or upset about the loss to Michigan on Tuesday. Matter of fact, I found myself chuckling to myself in that clown show of a first quarter. This was simply because I had dumbed down my expectations. I seen this movie before in Nashville, Norman and Knoxville.

This was a bad Michigan team, very much like Oklahoma. Oklahoma depleted by injuries. Michigan depleted by transfer and opt outs. Yep we had our own “issues”, but clearly we were “on paper” the more talented team. And we were embarrassed.

My hope? The Michigan game (or Oklahoma) was CKD’ s first year “Louisiana-Monroe” that CNS experienced in 2007.

I guess we will begin to find out some time in April as we get into Spring practices.

Honestly at this point, until Milroe declares what he is going to do it will be a bitter time on here, and not many will see much optimism.
I understand what you’re saying, but I just don’t get it. It’s as if the ultimate decision as to who plays QB next season rests with Milroe. That shouldn’t be the case at all.

My point is right now there is a huge amount of pessimism that is largely due to the loss of Michigan and the lack of an official statement about Milroe. Milroe declaring his intention, 99% gone from Bama, will give Bama fans some hope for the future and relief the nightmare is finally over.

Whether we have a quarterback on staff that is good enough to win a championship in 25 isn’t really the point, it’s more that we are finally done going to war with each other over Milroe and the Milroe era of quarterbacking.

That can be remedied now if someone has the chutzpah to basically tell him he likely wont be the starter next year

When Saban went 7-5, I don't think many of us were worried. We could tell he knew what he was doing and that the position wasn't too big for him. We don't even have that going for us in this case. We had some nice wins, sure, but our coach looks like a deer in headlights and seems unable to adapt to... well... anything!

If we just had one thing all year we could point to on offense where it seemed like CKD moved the needle even the tiniest bit, maybe it wouldn't be so alarming. I mean, a couple of head scratching losses and dysfunction were to be expected with the coaching transition and NIL/portal madness, but dang... I can't find a single thing to hang my hat on that says, "okay, there is DeBoer making a move."

Also, I know it's petty - about as petty as the "what shirt does he wear" controversy, but geez he isn't inspiring in front of a camera is he? Like really, one of the worst I've seen. Hopefully, this is just a quirk and not a leading indicator of behind the scenes weakness or indecision.

Anyway, he gets two full years with me to personally decide whether he's any good. If that goes badly, he still hopefully gets three years on the job, just so it doesn't end up looking like a knee jerk termination.

I’m willing to write this season off as him letting guys who stayed have their time for appreciation. He came in with a very tough situation most still appear not to understand. Still had horrible coaching at times but remember in the short time he had he lost his OC and OL coach I believe and had to make hires after the real coaching carousel. NOW if he does not make any coaching changes then as unfair as it is this coming season he is fair game to fire if the team looks so poorly coached as before and the lack of accountability is still there. Almost reminds me of Shula with no required weight training and no accountability for meetings. BUT not sure that was the case this year. If coaching changes are made then I give him 3 years unless wheels fall completely off or Milroe some reason stays but if Milroe stays and plays then fire him as soon as he lets him on the field again. But I would bet money that doesn’t happen. No reason to call for him to be fired yet and put the program is the dumps at this point.

I will note that I’m still doubtful of the DC as the team played bad offenses the back half so credit for improving is fine but also should note it was against bad offense. I will say they did great as far as holding Mich and OU and gave the team every chance to come back and win. So major credit there. Roach should probably be replaced and or moved.

It sounds to me like you've already made up your mind.

I didn't mean for it to. I figured it went without saying that we all hope it was just a weird year and we're off to the races and another dynasty starting in 2025.

I don't see how we can pretend leading indicators were great though...

TBF, the QB gave those bad offenses the ball deep on our own end of the field...

After Bryant retired we tried the rotating door of coaches. Other than Stallings, it didn't work out. I hope we keep DeBoer and some level of coaching stability until - after passage of several years! - it's clear he's not the right person. But for now, he's the right person!
Furthermore, we don't have the deep pockets of NIL money that other big dogs have. We can pretend... but we just don't. We - and college football - won't see a repeat of the continual run of success we achieved under Saban. I'm hoping we can make a credible run every few years. IMO that should be our new metric for success.
I don't want to be good enough SOMETIMES...

We still have a few days before our portal window closes. MIGHT have a coach or two move on to other opportunities after NSD in February. So all the hay isn't in the barn yet. This upcoming season - to me - feels like a fresh start and in retrospect last season was a bridge between the Saban regime and the DeBoer regime. (I'm definitely hoping that that's how history shows it....positively of course).

I'm definitely excited about spring ball. Looking forward to seeing a new direction.
I honestly forgot there is still another signing day to come

I'm completely demoralized.

Other programs have left us in the dust, our coach doesn't seem to be able to shift to changing conditions, he reminds me of Shula and Curry in that regard. We hired an offensive expert and got the worst offence I've ever witnessed in Crimson and it wasn't a fluke, defenses haven't suddenly improved. It was incompetence from the game plan and incompetence from the players. The tight ends and WR had a decent year but nothing else offensively worked.

The UGA game was a total fluke, it had more to do with Smart being unprepared than us being good.

My only hope is that DeBoer looks deeply into himself, questions everything he thinks and believes, commits to make changes no matter who it ****** off, that includes showing the door to some players and coaches, and the equipment staff, the yard man at the local hotel 6. I DO NOT CARE.

I don't care what the players make, If their loyalty is not focused on making Alabama better their talent won't help us. We need guys who will do it the right way way more than we need people with more talent. Talent is usesless against good teams if you don't do it the right way. Pure athletic ability is not alone going to work. It's the guy who can focus the most athletic ability into effective results. Trust me when I say that since I've been watching Alabama in the 70's, some of the most amazing athletes we've had were rotten football players. We need to get the right guys on the field. We didn't do that this year.

If DeBoer can't fix this between now and the end of spring Alabama will slip into the 2nd tier of programs that have next to no chance of winning a championship and only a coaching change will fix it. Seen this multiple times before and the signs are all there. Can he turn it around? yes he can, but he's got to become a terrible person, nice people don't win in the SEC. It is what it is. There was no bigger jerk than Nick Saban when you weren't getting it done.
When I was working my job was to get the job done. I DID.
I wasn't a popular boss, but I did what I had to do.
(16 years later a lot of my men still don't understand.)
IMO...
That is what I think CKD will have to do. Otherwise...
He will settle for mediocre, and we (Alabama) will run him off.
He must learn that he is their Coach, not their buddy.
If he's not going to call the shots the mess will continue.

You are correct,Somebody's got to be the boss, if Debore doesn't do it some one will fill the void and we'll be right back where we have been for two years.
