Coach has absolutely nothing to do with the offense other than personnel. I forget what interview I heard that in. But he said that. I don't imagine the OC being too restricted on that side of the ball.

Remember the play that beat auburn in 09? Cody-5. Saban called that play, as far as the majority of play calling, playbook, set, formations, etc Saban doesn't deal with it. Sure, he'll coach em up, but come game day, it's all on the OC shoulders to score us some points. I mean, Saban is not gonna bring in someone like Mike Leach, or that Baylor OC. We're not going to be airing-it-out. We'll still be run first, but I don't think it's always going to be exactly how Saban would do it. Why do you think he yell's so much when our O is on the field :D

I'm kind of excited for our new offense next season. Lord knows watching some of these suspect play calling has driven me insane. Last year all they wanted to do was get cute in the redzone. This year I guess has been way better though. Even without a receiver with Julio's caliber.

Whoever comes in will have an arsenal of weapons to use.
He may say that he doesn't do anything with offense other than personnel, but the OC is expected to fit his style, gameplan, play-calling, etc. within CNS' expectations. There's a difference between what goes on in Ttown with the offense than the way it appears at other schools in this state. He'll hire someone with a pro-style background and who will keep the play-calling balanced between the run & the pass.

You didn't like averaging nearly 40 points a game with a run first offense? Interesting.

If you want to believe that CNS just let's the offense do what it wants...well, we'll have to agree to disagree. The majority of the yelling has a lot to do with execution or lack there of in the yelling cases.

Not a one of you guys would have picked that CNS would have hired Jim McIlwain or Major Applewhite before him.
Nope. I'm curious how many had heard of Jim McIlwain before he became our OC. I'm willing to bet Coach Saban has about 5 guys as potential replacements. I wouldnt be suprised if these are guys we've not thought about.

I think it will be someone who can A) help work with the QBs and B) can recruit. I don't see some "wet behind the ears" type working. We had that exprience with Applewhite and it didn't go over to well. CNS did a pretty good job last time and I bet he has a substantial list of resumes to look through this morning.
I have the perfect solution for this...He is knowledgable of our program and the area....He is reknowned as a qb developer.....He has a tremendous pedigree and NFL experience!!!!!!!

I'd take Al Borges in a minute. He is a great OC who tuberville foolishly cast aside for Tony Franklin.

I've read an article a while back where Coach Saban had nothing but praise for Borges..I took it they're good friends..So I could see Coach Saban hiring him..Borges is considered one of the best QB Coach & Offensive Minds in college football..I think it would be a great hire..

This is no knock against Groh, but living 30 minutes from the uva campus here, I got to see a lot of games when he was the offensive coordinator here, and im just not confident hes ready for that role just yet. His dad did him no favors by promoting him so early in his coaching career. By no means am I saying hes not a good offensive coach, I just don't think he is ready.

I want to see Josh McDaniels. I don't think he's really happy at Rams. With him, and the talent we have on the O side, we'll let R-kansas know who has the best O in the SEC. Meanwhile, wasn't Cris Carter supposed to be involved in some sort of coaching next year? I remember Chris Black mentioned something like that back when he committed to us.

I was thinking the same thing :). He would be a perfect fit :). He could get the on job training that he needed before he took the job before. Would that be irony or what? Have Saban groom him to be his replacement after he retired :). You replace the one that replaced you :).

Josh McDaniels will either get fired by the Rams or hightail it out of St. Louis to take the Kansas City job. He isn't coming to the college game.

From the St. Louis Post Dispatch:

With quarterback Sam Bradford playing on a gimpy left ankle and unable to consistently step into his throws, it was a challenge for the Rams to reach the end zone. ... [In a] failed goal-line situation, the bizarre McDaniels called for Bradford to run a naked bootleg. It was an instant disaster that ended with Bradford getting pummeled, slammed to the ground and flagged for intentional grounding. Calling a bootleg for a quarterback who's gimping around on high ankle sprain? Put Bradford at risk instead of giving the rock to Jackson? This is really awful coaching, folks.

Do you all think that Saban is going to hire one now, or do you think he will wait until after the LSU game?
I would think after the LSU game because focus is on that game and that game only, with some recruiting trips in between. So currently, there is little time for coach searching and interviewing. I do think, however, we will know shortly thereafter due to recruiting. This is of course an important decision to make and some dedicated time is needed to make the right choice. I predict we will know who our new OC is around Jan. 15-20 unless we promote from within which I see we will know that prior to the BCSNCG.

The problem with McDaniels is that he would not be a guy that would be in it for the long haul. 2-3 years max for JM and he is looking for a new head job at a high profile school or back in the NFL...
