I mentioned it in the other thread...what about Tony Sparano? Although he might get another chance as a head coach.
I don't have any realistic expectation that CNS would hire Norm Chow but Chow is hands-down the best OC in college football over the past 20 years and can run a pro-style attack to perfection. One word... NO!
I get the humor, but we don't have to bring auburn into every thread.Gus Malzahn. He has showed that he can win with or without talent. His wife would also represent the Crimson Tide proudly and play a part with recruiting.
While recruiting is vital to our program, and I have no idea, but I wonder how much emphasis coach puts into the OC as a recruiter, whom is basically an assistant head coach from what I've seen. With the recruiting ability we already have, does the hire necessarily need to have a strong reputation as a recruiter? Would he take, in his mind, a potentially great playcaller/QB coach that was maybe a little shy on the recruiting front? I trust coach Saban but I hope that a good play caller and QB developer are of the highest priority.Whomever turns in a resume better be a great recruiter too.
as a Pitt season tix holder I can say that Cignetti is horrible. His '09 offense was as good as his '08 offense was bad and sure enough his Rutgers offenses are miserable. I think it's also safe to say that you should never hire someone that Wannstache was so fond of being that his previous coordinator, Matt Cavanaugh, was equally inept. Here's a name out of left field: Frank Cignetti, currently the OC/QB coach at Rutgers. Just finished up his first season there, and the results this year aren't staggering (in fact, they had one of the worst rushing offenses in FBS this season at 92 ypg). However, there's the obvious connection with the Cignetti family - Curt is his younger brother - and Frank has a wealth of experience in both college and the NFL. His 2009 offense at Pitt averaged 32 ppg, and in 2008 his California offense averaged 33 ppg. He directed back-to-back offenses at Fresno State that finished in the top 10 nationally in total offense in 2004 & 2005. He's also worked with the 49ers, the Saints and the Chiefs at the NFL level. Philosophically, his offense is typically pretty similar to what we have run for the last four seasons. I'm purely speculating here, but this guy seems like a prototypical Saban hire and there are a lot of things about him that fit the mold very well.
hateful....I have the perfect solution for this...He is knowledgable of our program and the area....He is reknowned as a qb developer.....He has a tremendous pedigree and NFL experience!!!!!!!
Everyone ready>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>The winner is MIKE SHULA
Chow has hit his peak and is on his downfall.I don't have any realistic expectation that CNS would hire Norm Chow but Chow is hands-down the best OC in college football over the past 20 years and can run a pro-style attack to perfection.
Perhaps but even at slightly less than optimal Chow is head and shoulder superior to any other OC that I've seen. Don't judge him by his time at UCLA, look at his body of work at BYU, NC State, and USC. It never is a good idea for an offensive guru to work for a head coach who thinks of himself of an offensive guru.Chow has hit his peak and is on his downfall.
The last time Tony Sparano was an offensive coordinator was 1989-1993 at Boston University. He was a tight-ends and offensive line coach for the bulk of his NFL career.I mentioned it in the other thread...what about Tony Sparano? Although he might get another chance as a head coach.
I actually like that idea, and he may have a vendetta to settle with Auburn.Al Borges?
He'd blow the food budget.Mark Mangino ran some great offenses in the past. I wouldn't mind him at all.
What was so great was that he changed to fit Saban and the conference and still continued to put up the same types of total yardage that got him hired in the first place from Fresno. He just got the 400+ and 35+ points a game in a different manner. I am sure it was much more challenging than slinging it 45 times a game. I bet he will tear up the conference.. I took his comments to mean that you have to change your offensive philosophy to fit the SEC if you have always been a spread it out and throw it kind of playcaller. Plus, if you have a defense like Bama's you play to that with your offense.
