they had taken him out of isolation, but he is getting worse. he is being put back in isolation now. he cannot remember the correct year, he forgot his birthday, he is confusing his left and right and since it is a children's hospital there is an xbox in his room and he has forgotten how to play. he is getting another spinal tap today and more blood tests. they believe it is the viral kind and not bacterial. he still needs prayers.

they have unhooked the IV and are possibly thinking about letting him go home tomorrow if he doesn't get worse after unhooking the IV.

99% sure it is spinal meningitis, but they are running more blood work to make sure. they said they will not do another spinal tap unless they absolutely have to do it.

they are apparently going to let him go home today. they are still continuing to run tests but they do not believe he is contagious anymore. he still has a long road to complete recovery. his fever is down and he is talking more. it will take the rest of his summer to completely recover.

thank you to everyone for their prayers. he is home now. he is still having some memory issues but doctor's are optimistic he will recover in time. he seems to have no trouble remembering me promising him to take him to a football game (so now i have to come thru).

Glad to hear this. I will continue to keep your nephew in my prayers as he begins his recovery. I have two little nieces, and every time I hear the least little thing regarding their health, my hair turns a little grayer. It can be something as simple as the doctor wanting to do blood work to check out the iron level in one of them. I get SO nervous, I can't think straight until I hear something reassuring.

it turns out that my nephew did not have spinal meningitis. he had california la crosse encephalitis (you can google it). it is very rare and even more rare in the south. the people at the CDC are the ones who finally got the diagnosis right. he is doing better and doctor's believe there will not be any permanent damage.
