I personally think Bama is going to be better than we were last year. Time, of course, will tell. But I like our depth at key positions and I think Greg Mac is going to be a very very pleasant surprise.

I really feel that Va. Tech will have to score their points, if any, off of turnovers and special teams. Their running back injury situation is very unfortunate for them. Plus their offensive line, if not improved by about 50% from last year is nothing to write home about. I don't think they'll be able to drive the ball consistently at all. I can't imagine them grinding out an 80 yard time consuming touchdown drive. If we don't hand them turnovers or give them big punt returns or blocked punts I can't see them scoring over 10 points, and probably less.

Defensively they'll be tough. I don't think we'll just line up and run over them or out physical them badly but I think we have enough talent skill wise that we'll score on some big plays. Beamer's very smart. He'll cover Julio up. So I'd think Maze, Hanks, possibly even Kevin Norwood could be the "surprise big play makers", along with maybe a Terry Grant, players that are somewhat "under the radar" and not so much in the scouting reports.

I don't think Javy will be a huge factor on punt returns because there's no way in hades that Beamer's going to kick to him.

All in all, because of their offensive injury situation, I think Virginia Tech will play close to the vest and try to keep it close going into the fourth quarter. I think we'll actually open it up and try to jump out early so we can place the game in the hands of our defense.

Close early, tough fought first half. We go ahead 17-0 early in the second half and score 14 more after forcing Va. Tech turnovers when they abandon their running game

Half- Bama 10 Va. Tech 0
Final Bama- 31 Va. Tech 0

Call me crazy. I just don't think they can move the ball at all on our defense.

RTR!!!! Deep Fry the Gobblers!

On the pick 'em game on ESPN (as of last Friday when I made my picks), 84% of people were picking Bama...I don't think it's that much of an open/shut case...VT has alot of issues offensively, but their D will be stout...Also don't ever count out a Beamer team scoring or setting up a score with thier Special teams...Bama is breaking in a new QB, so I think Bama will KISS, therefore I don't see a real high score...I still think Bama wins, but I'm not as confident as 84%, or as Alasippi

Wow! Have another swig of that cool-aid, sip, I like the way you think. And I hope you're right, but I think it could be a little closer, like 21-10. Being the first game for both teams, it's really hard to come up with a reasonable guess.

i think bama will get a comfortable lead to start off, but vt will make a big push, but not big enough.

Bama scores 21 in the first half VT 3 and GMac throws a pick six in the 3rd qtr. GMac rebounds and throws a 60 yard PA pass to Julio and we kick a late field goal.

Given our defense and the fact that I don't believe GMAC will do as bad as a lot of people think or hope, I'm going with Ala 24 VT 13:biggrin:
