OK, I am very happy now that that the reshuffling is over with and the AJ situation is settled. ;)

No UT visit for AJ
With reports leaking out Friday morning that St. Paul's quarterback AJ McCarron is gearing up for an official visit to Tennessee, the Rivals250 star has other plans on his mind that doesn't include leaving the city of Mobile.

"AJ's not going to Tennessee or anywhere else this weekend for an official visit. We are going to stay here for the Senior Bowl. I'm not sure where that came from but it's certainly not true," AJ's father Tony McCarron told BOL. "AJ is set on Alabama. He told Coach Saban last week he wasn't visiting Tennessee and he will keep his word. He knows Alabama is the place for him and has for a long time. So any reports of him taking a visit this weekend isn't true."

The only two good things to ever come out of that state were JD and CDB.
Even those two aren't any good.

Charlie Daniels was maybe okay way back when he had some decent Southern rock, and even that's just a maybe, but now? No way.

And they screwed up Jack Daniels five years ago when they lowered the alcohol content. That used to be pretty good stuff and I drank it regularly as affordable sipping whiskey, but when they lowered the alcohol content it completely changed the complexity and balance of the whole thing. I bought one bottle of the "new" stuff and swore it would be my last. I've largely even stopped buying their specialty versions, some of which are still pretty good, just because they screwed up the original.

Ah, what the hell would they know about it anyway? Those rubes are more worried about selling bottles of barbecue sauce, mustard, steak marinades, pralines, t-shirts, boxer shorts... and anything else they can find to stick their brand name and logo on.

Anyway, I hate Tennessee. And so should everyone else.

Come on now don't quit Jack Daniels just becaue it is now 80 proof instead of 86 proof. You must have a pretty discerning pallet to distinguish a 3% alcohol difference or is it just the less buzz factor? ;) It is still a tasty sour mash even though it is not a true bourbon. Some folks even say Jack Daniels has a fuller, richer flavor than bourbon. I disagree with that opinion but I do like an occassional glass just the same. If I am not mistaken Jeff Arnett the Jack Daniels Master Distiller attended or graduated from Alabama. I can not find that info anywhere but I heard it or read it somewhere. I do prefer bourbon to JD and my bourbon of choice is Wild Turkey 101.

I do agree though CD is not the same as the old CDB.

Come on BET, The South's Gonna Do It Again, Long Haired Country Boy, Uneasy Rider. That's deserves better than a "maybe."

Somewhat off topic, but thought I'd share.

In April or May 1973, the University Program Council had a 3 day (Friday thru Sunday) concert/exhibition on Woods Quad called the "Spring Rave Up". Since admission was free and they didn't have a bunch of money to spend, all the acts booked were local/regional acts that would do a set or two just for the exposure and maybe a little expense money.

One of these unknown groups was led by a grungy-looking fiddler who told this long narrative tale while the band played a mix of bluegrass & rock. While that type music wasn't popular on campus at that time, they were able to win over the audience and a T-town DJ (Courtney Hayden) who was there asked the group for a demo tape.

Courtney started giving the song a little airplay and the group soon got a record deal. The single of that narrative/song was released in July 73 and quickly climbed to #9 on the national charts. The group was, of course, the Charlie Daniels Band and the narrative/song was 'Uneasy Rider'.

I'm sure CDB would have eventually hit the big time without playing at UA, but their performance at the Spring Rave Up did play a small part in their rise to stardom.

First off, we are not getting any of those guys, but I do think it says something about our staff that these three were looking at us at all. These guys didnt' have us anywhere near our their radar screen under the last staff. We're certainly getting looks from guys we weren't before. But since we're not getting visits from anyone of those three, then they're certainly not coming here.
It is just natural that your new staff would attract more interest from recruits than the fat man that couldn't tell the truth if it was shoved in his mouth and spend most of his time running or hiding from it!!

My office was in Clark hall. It was in the back of the Arts and Sciences suite, and my window looked out on the quad. You may recall that the Clark Hall/Woods hall cluster was the first to be rebuilt after the yankees burned us during the war. I do not know if it were the same concert, but I remember after one of them, when I reported to work on Monday I had to tippy-toe through the hypodermic syringes lying around on the grass.

Those were the days, my friend.
