Star is a great athlete. I'm sure he would be a valuable addition if he never starts at QB.:BigA:
Not to get in a peeing contest here...but Star threw for 1,900 yards and rushed for 750 in his junior year in high school with next to nothing surrounding him on offense...and all indications are that he has VASTLY improved over the summer. It's not so much that I want to see him be the next Vince Young...just don't write him off because he's not your typical golden boy dropback QB. And I would have to disagree with you that Vince Young is "much more of a dominating athlete" at this point. He's not very far ahead of Star athletically, at least not at this point in his development. Star's pretty dang good when he tucks that thing under his arm.Young's taller, faster, bigger, has a much better feel for defenses, has a much stronger arm, and is much more of a dominating athlete. Star's never gonna be that guy that throws for 3000+ yards and rushes for 1000+ in a season, a-la Young. And that's not a knock on Star, it is a testament to how dominating Young was.
Similarities between Young and Star basically begin and end dual-threat and undeveloped.
I could not agree more.If CNS wants him then I do too.
You guys are comparing a guy who hasnt played a down of college football let alone his senior year of high school football!!! I think this thread is getting out of hand with the Star bashing.:mad2:Young's taller, faster, bigger, has a much better feel for defenses, has a much stronger arm, and is much more of a dominating athlete. I don't know what "radar" you're talking about, but he is bieng recruited by many big programs. I am starting to think that some posting are outsiders wanting to "stir the pot."let's go ahead and sign him, and then develop him. he is not on the radar because he is a mediocre player. if CNS wants him then i do too.
I agree 100%. When it comes to judging talent, I don't think there is anyone better in the business than Saban. I will surely trust his judgement more than some guy who watched a couple of clips on youtube or rivals.I really think this thread could be damaging to our recruiting. Remember why Demetrious Goode de-committed from Kentucky and signed with us? Reading posts like this, that's why. Everyone has a right to their own opinion, but if it has a chance to hurt our recruiting, it might be better to keep it to themselves, because it's not going to make any difference.
In my book, the coaches have much more experience judging talent than I do. It's actually pretty laughable that people make such grand assessments, good or bad, from a few highlight reels.
I agree to your comment, but it goes both ways! He is a good prospect, but with him not even competed his sr year much less in D1 it is way too soon for us to compare him to great D1 players or pros either.IMO,this thread gets over board both ways! You guys are comparing a guy who hasnt played a down of college football let alone his senior year of high school football!!! I'm sure that CNS and company have a backup plan if, heaven forbid, Star does not commit. There is Casey Kelly and B.J. Daniels from FL that both claim offers and also Tyler Wilson from AR, so there are other options out there. I don't want anyone to take this as a "I don't want Star" post because I hope to see Star in Crimson just as much, if not more than anybody. I'm just pointing out that CNS has a backup plan, as he does with every other position, if Star chooses to play his college ball elsewhere. Let's hope we get some great news on the 23rd. Roll Tide!!I didn't resurrect the thread for the "experts" to de-bone this young man. I was wondering if there was a back up plan in case he didn't commit. I was really wondering if his weight was correct, I would like to see him around 210-215 lbs.
He has got to have some talent or the staff wouldn't offer. Always remember that these kids are not getting the kind of coaching that they will at Bama. This makes them all "projects", just at varying stages of completion.
