Questions from an Aggie

First of all, I am excited to be coming to my first game in Tuscaloosa in a few weeks! My daughter is a freshman at UA and our first non-Aggie in the family.

My first question is regarding parking on gameday. I am bringing my 80 y/o parents and was trying to find something between her dorm (Ridgecrest South) and the stadium to minimize their walking. When we dropped her off, I reconned a little neighborhood around Caplewood/Sherwood that looked like a good possibility. Do people sell parking in their yards, etc?? Is that even a possibility there? I'm open for other suggestions as well.

Second question - wear our Aggie gear or not? If it were just me and my wife, I wouldn't even ask but we will also have my 14 y/o son and my aforementioned parents and I would like to avoid any "unfortunate situations" with them. Not asking for any guarantees here but more trying to get a sense of how opposing fans are received/treated??

Thanks ahead of time for any insights!

Welcome!

1) Yes, people do sell parking in there yards. It can take a long time to get out after the game, but it does help with cutting down the walk. You can also park at the soccer field and ride the shuttles, but getting one back after the game requires standing in a long line.

2) No problem with wearing your gear. The vast majority of Bama fans are not going to bother you at all and you will be surprised at how friendly everyone will be. It you do get anyone giving you a hard time it will be in good fun and you don't have to worry about your safety at all. If some drunk fool bothers you, other Bama fans will come to your defense.

I hope you go home sad (from the score :)) but I think you will totally enjoy yourselves.

Roll Tide!

Hello - No the neighborhood Caplewood/Sherwood is in the Tuscaloosa historic district. They will not be selling spots in those neighborhoods.

Note that the yards on the south side of the stadium will allow parking for a fee. However, yes, check out the Game Day site.

Riverside Drive will have some spots for rent. But it’s prime real estate on game days, so if that’s what you want, get there early. Spots are more plentiful on the south side.

The Gameday tab discusses parking in some detail.

Welcome, hope you enjoy your experience (except the outcome of the game).

In my experience, a vast majority of Bama fans are quite cordial - especially if Bama wins. That said, there are always a few bad apples in crowds this big, but I'll tell you this much - if I see ANYONE picking on a kid or older person, I'll stop it then and there. And I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels that way.

Come on in and enjoy the experience. RTR

CA is right. If visiting fans don’t invite trouble with smack talk or behavior, 99+% of Bama fans will be welcoming and cordial. Wear your colors, but recognize you’re in Tuscaloosa, not College Station, and all should be well.

I can’t promise that you won’t run into a drunk obliviot. But I can promise that they’ll be an infinitesimal minority, and that any witnesses will go out of their way to make you welcome.

I lived on Caplewood back in the day and folks parked in the yards. I saw folks selling parking there 2 years ago. I have a parking pass in the Campus Drive Parking Deck now but, in the past found parking near Bryant Dr & 12th St to be optimal. About 3-4 blocks from the stadium, usually $40-$50.

Thanks for all of the Info!

Funny someone mentioned LSU as I have attended multiple games in Tiger Stadium including in uniform as a student...those are exactly the kind of experiences I was hoping to avoid and I'm glad to hear UA fans hold themselves to a higher standard. I won't bore you guys with stories but I will say I have seen things at LSU that would make me extremely ashamed had I gone to school there. What's worse is that it seems to be condoned at worse or at best tolerated.

Wear your Aggie gear but sit w/your daughter. She can always say she tried to raise you right but some folks just won't listen.

Welcome to Tuscaloosa!

There is parking fairly close in yards.... just come early or they fill up fast.

I hope your daughter enjoys her time at Bama!

There are usually areas on 13th street to park.

Wear your A&M colors and gear! You are supposed to. It is Tuscaloosa and not Baton Rouge.
Exactly! I was at A&M's first game against us where Manziel went all crazy on us. Even though we lost, I did not see poor sportsmanship displayed by EITHER school's fans. A&M fans mix well with Bama fans. Wear those colors. Just hope you go away disappointed in the outcome of the game! ROLL TIDE!

With elderly parents, I'd recommend parking downtown and taking the gameday shuttle ($1 per person each way) which drops off right by the southwest corner of the stadium. You can buy tickets and hop on the shuttle on 23rd Avenue between 6th and 7th Streets.

I had considered that but we will get to campus first thing Saturday morning and spend considerable time at my daughter's dorm (Ridgecrest). Will probably put my parents there at her dorm while the rest of us roam the campus until time to make our way to the stadium.

They aren't invalids or anything but I am trying to avoid drop off at the stadium - walk all the way to Ridgecrest and then all the way back to stadium for game then long line for shuttle after game.

I'm thinking if I could park in between we would have short walk to Ridgecrest when we arrive then long walk to stadium for game then short walk back to car afterwards.

Actually, when I type it out that way it's probably not that much difference either way.....I guess I'll just see what's available when we get there...

With regard to parking at the soccer fields and taking the shuttle, it is what I do. Having elderly and/or handicapped folks means you can go to the head of the line so you don't have to wait in line long. I think your parents certainly qualify. In my case I am a senior and the last time I was at BDS, I had a lower back problem and people in line encouraged me to go to the front on the queue. Hoping you and your family have a wonderful visit and enjoy yourselves and hopefully that enjoyment will not include the score!

Welcome! Lots of info on parking and all other gameday topics in our Gameday Guide (link on menu at top).

As many have mentioned, you should wear your gear. Ignore any stupid people who might harass you - they're most likely drunk and should be treated as the idiots they are. Walk through the quad and other tailgate areas and I'm guessing you'll be invited to join more than one group's festivities.

Report back here with your experiences - hoping you and your parents have a terrific trip - except for the score :)
