Re: RB Leonard Fournette Updates (Page 14)

I really liked his last interview, when he was commenting on his meeting with CNS. He said that Saban was "way cooler" than he expected and that the best players will play. He then said that he could come in, work hard and start. I'm sure the LSU recruiters are pointing out DH's lack of PT. I'd like to see DH get more PT vs. OK. I'm still afraid that we have too many quality RBs and we'll see some transfers. Anyway, I think we have an outside chance with LF. For DH to move up to #2, his blocking must have really picked up. I watched a couple of highlight reels of DH in HS, and, of course, he only blocked on passing downs. Other than that, he had the ball every down. When I saw his blocking I remember thinking that he really had some work to do there. His technique wasn't very good and looked sort of casual. CNS has said before that the hardest thing to teach young outstanding RB is blocking, because they just haven't had to do much of it in HS...

I don't think DH move to #2 RB is so much him moving ahead of KD as much as KD getting in the doghouse. Kenyan Drake brings something to our offense that DH and TJ don't, explosion. TJ can hit the hole pretty hard, but I haven't seen any explosion through the hole from Henry yet. KD gets through the LOS faster than almost any RB I have seen.
LF was saying that he thought Bo Scarborough was bigger, stronger, and faster than he was. Hope develop a great relationship and want to play together. Hope Bo can qualify.

Re: RB Leonard Fournette Updates (Page 14)

Exactly Earl.

Remember back to Shaun Alexander. The joke was the only one that could hold Alexander under 200 yards in a game was Gene Stallings. Stallings, very much like Saban, was a stickler for fundamentals. Shaun's pass blocking skills were lacking considerably coming out of high school in Kentucky. In high school, very much like Henry, Shaun was in to "tote the rock".

LF doesn't seem like a kid that is afraid of competition or hard work. An "earmark" of a Saban pitch is "best players are going to play". I also think Landon Collins' decision and the positive experience he has in Tuscaloosa since making the decision to leave the state could help swing LF in our favor.
The villain was really Woody McCorvey and he was quite open about it. SA not only wouldn't/couldn't block, he was highly allergic to the weight room, much like Croyle. IIRC, Shaun said, after his retirement, that his career might have been longer, if he'd paid more attention to S&C. Holmgren had the same two complaints about SA. He also griped about SA's "dancing in the hole," which was just Shaun's style. However it only works if you have a pretty good OL. When Seattle's OL got weaker the last couple of years he was there, it didn't work so well any more and gave Holmgren the excuse to do what he'd wanted to do all along, trade Shaun...

Re: RB Leonard Fournette Updates (Page 14)

Since we're off topic anyway, and taking about Shaun, even though I thought Holmgren was a very good coach I found it was a tactless thing to do when Shaun was a yard or two short of winning the rushing title and the Seahawks were near the goal line - Holmgren called for a qb sneak (at least once) for their final td and didn't give SA an opportunity.

Back to Fournette, is he still announcing tomorrow or has that changed?

Exactly...I've said this several times. Once Steve Huthcinson left for Minnesota, Shaun went downhill. Walter Lewis was still there, but it wasn't the same as having them both. Not coincidentally, Minnesota led the league in rushing first year Hutchinson was there (and this was the year just before they drafted Adrian Peterson).

Edit: Minnesota didn't lead the league in rushing that season. But Shaun only rushed for 896 yards that year and Chester Taylor (!!!!) rushed for over 1200 for Minnesota.

Fournette tweeted earlier today that he will be wearing #7 in college. Just so happens that neither Bama nor LSU have a player on the roster with that numer next year.

LF is definitely having fun toying with the media and social media. Wonder what other little teasers he will come up with.
LSU is in line to have a huge recruiting day tomorrow. Hope we can steal at least 1.

I am about 90% sure LF is going to LSU (you say there's a chance!). I hope beyond hope that we land he and Brown tomorrow, but i'll just have to cross my fingers and try not to be a pessimist.. As far as his tweets about wearing #7, you can look into it two ways..

#7 was worn at UA by Kenny Bell, another LA native. Passing the number on to him? I hope

#7 has been vacant for two years at LSU, because the last person wearing it was (an alumnus from St Augustine also fwiw) Tyrann Mathieu...

So he is doing an excellent job of trolling, lol...

OR he's definitely going to LSU since Kenny Bell tweeted earlier this season that he was saving #7 for (another LA receiver) Cameron Sims...

But everything is fluid in recruiting. Nothing is in stone til signing day..,and sometimes not then either

Yeah...I am just hoping one of the concessions made in all of this is that LF could wear #7 if he wanted to... I don't think that is the case, and he is heading to LSU...but hopefully everything being fluid works in our favor this time.

Agreed i don't think CNS guarantees numbers because ithought upperclassmen usually get to choose first. That may be very telling on where he's going.

i agree with the policy of making freshmen wait their turn. CNS has already mentioned that a good part of getting the freshmen to buy in is "de-recruiting" them and deflating some ego; giving them the power to "cut in line" inflates what CNS tries to deflate.

He guaranteed Trent number 3. There was a long discussion in much the same vein during his recruitment. Would you want the reason a big time recruit spurned your school is because you wouldn't give him a number? No, you wouldn't.

If the only reason a recruit didn't come to your school is because he didn't get a certain number as a freshman, I don't think I would want that recruit. His focus is on something other than team.

I cant see that being the deciding factor, not at all.

I think he's been a long shot for quite a while.

Re: RB Leonard Fournette Updates (Page 14)

Fournette will announce during the fourth quarter of the Under Armour game tonight, presumably the last recruit to announce.

We've got a puncher's shot in this one, but really all signs point toward LSU. Wouldn't be the biggest recruiting surprise ever if he went with us tonight, but it would be pretty high up there.

Just saw the special that ESPN did on LF. Despite the crappy hand he was dealt as a kid, he ooks like a top-notch kid off the field as well. It's hard to root against a kid like that. Hope he picks Bama, but if not, I will have tons of respect for him.
