Re: RB Rushel Shell Updates

I would have liked to get T.J. Yeldon as well, but I am stoked about Taylor and Drake. A RB doesn't need to be 5 stars to succeed in this offense. See Glen Coffee and Mark Ingram.
no but it sure is a nice affirmation to get them isnt it. :)

I've felt for a while that we are in a good spot for Sanders and our recent injury and transfer woes at RB may help entice him on the depth chart side of things.

Re: RB Rushel Shell Updates

I wonder since we are still recruiting B Brwon if we give him a shot at RB. I beleive he said that is MSU is recruiting him at.

Anyway we are fine with what we have and use the few spots we have for other positions of need and wait on a RB for next years class.

UA in his final 4 with Pitt, VT, UF and looks to still announce Oct 14th. I say Pitt at the moment but who knows. Also will be playing LB this fall for his HS.

Mike White of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Shell is down to Pitt, Florida, Virginia Tech and Alabama

Shell played cornerback but will switch to outside linebacker in 2011.

Re: RB Rushel Shell Updates

UA staff watched him play Friday night as he eclipsed 7000+yds rushing. Also he called his own play to win the game. I want this kid.

Up until the biggest play of the game, Rushel Shell had played running back, linebacker, returned kicks and punted. It was fourth down. Late in the fourth quarter. Game on the line.

Now it was time for Shell to take on another role.

Offensive coordinator.

Shell came to the sideline during a timeout with Hopewell facing a fourth-and-4. He went to Hopewell coach Dave Vestal and used his fingers to put up a four. Then he put up five.

"I said, 'Coach, we should run 45 gap.' That's our No. 1 play," Shell said.
And Montour is no longer No. 1 because of it.

Shell turned the simple off-tackle play into a winning, 35-yard touchdown with 1:25 left, and Hopewell knocked off visiting Montour, 22-19, in front of a packed house at Tony Dorsett Stadium.

I wouldn't give up on this one just yet. He certainly looks Pitt bound, but Pitt almost went down this weekend to Maine. Any time you are that bad, anything can happen with NSD six months away.

Seriously, the only two things Pitt can offer is that his family could readily come see him play and it's a pretty good school. On the other hand, he'll NEVER win anything there. Barring a miracle, I don't see Pitt getting better any time soon.

Well, I'll tell you we had multiple coaches at his game Friday night. That has to speak volumes.

On the team charter literally the only coaches (give or take one or two) onboard were the coordinators and Coach Saban. I knew then where most of them would be.:)

Re: RB Rushel Shell Updates

Not sure how much I would read into the fact that our staff visited his game on Friday night. That is a routine practice for the staff, and realistically who else in the area would they have been?

In any event, though, don't close the book here just yet. It's a longshot, sure, but it's a possibility. He could have a quick path to playing time at 'Bama.

http://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2011...sports-editorial-why-pitt-needs-rushel-shell/
When ROOT Sports high school football coordinating producer Craig McConnell joined us for his weekly spot on “The UPMC High School Football Show” (Saturday at 7:00 A.M. on 93.7 The Fan) last Saturday, his knee-jerk reaction was that Shell will ultimately sign with Pitt.

However, he outlined why he thought Todd Graham’s offense might not suit him as well as that of the other schools supposedly on his short list. I disagree.

Dorsett said that the team has underperformed so far in some games, but they have the coach and players to have some success.

We also took a look at Rushel Shell, the high school running back at Tony’s own high school of Hopewell, who is breaking all his records and what a big recruit he would be for Pitt if they’re able to land him.

Re: RB Rushel Shell Updates

Some info on the Pitt boards would leave me to believe he is staying home and going to Pitt if true. Nothing bad but reason enough to stay close to home. Again who knows if the people posting have real info. I think UA is in it but Pitt seems to be the team to beat right now.
