re: RB Trent Richardson Update (1/27): Info from the LSU visit & UF in-home visit

My head hurts.

I still feel TR is going to the Capstone. This is the TR pattern: He visits others. He says nice things about others. He says he has a lot to think over. He says something that makes everyone have ???? go through their head. He stays committed to Alabama. I think the last constant in that pattern says something.
The one thing that is being said about Richardson is that he has a hard time telling someone no. With that type of personality this type of recruiting situation would be almost unbearable. Both Richardson and Randle as well as some of the other uncommitted prospects have said they can not wait for this to be over with. Can you imagine the tremendous pressure Trent is under with the likes of Les Miles, Urban Meyer, Bobby Bowden/Jimbo Fisher and the 'Big Ragoo' tyring to dissuade him from his commitment to Nick Saban? ;)

re: RB Trent Richardson Update (1/27): Info from the LSU visit & UF in-home visit

Care to further indulge us?
UF has "shown" him that they can line up the other two "speed" backs on the outside with him in the true backfield. This will allow him to make plays in space.....which I'm sure they have told him equals more touches, less injuries, etc.

xCLT has been talking to TR, as well....which I also don't like one bit.

Futhermore, according to a coach, TR doesn't like telling people 'no.' Hopefully we are the ones he can't tell 'no' on his commitment.

re: RB Trent Richardson Update (1/27): Info from the LSU visit & UF in-home visit

According to Rivals latest report on Richardson today on BOL Escambia coach Jimmie Nichols says that TR is going to FSU for his last visit. That Scout.com report is in error.

Coach Nichols also completely dispells the laughable "Big Ragoo rumor." He said that TR liked Florida better than LSU but Trent always comes back to Alabama..

I have said all along the team to worry about down the stretch is UF...
Hopefully Rivals has it correct on the official visit stuff, it wouldn't surprise me that Scout.com has it wrong. Anyone can edit their information, and it wouldn't be the first time something like this has happened.

Anyway, you are right on Florida v. LSU. If you are looking for the second place team, you can bet your bottom dollar that it's Florida. As much as the Dandy Dons of the world want to put on about how they are going to steal this kid, if Richardson is going anywhere else aside from Alabama it will be Florida.

And that "big back" he needed so badly, Moody, probably had walking pneumonia throughout the season and it prevented him from filling that role last year.
You bring up Moody, and it's a good point because if Richardson does go to Florida, that will be exactly what happens to him. He'll sit over on the bench watching Tebow / his ultimate replacement, Demps, Rainey, and Debose get about 90% of the touches. There is simply no role for a big back in that offense.

Look at Moody this year... ultra-talented guy who supposedly Florida needed so bad, and look what happened. He didn't even get a carry against Miami, Arkansas, LSU, or Kentucky... a whopping two carries against Ole Miss... four carries against Alabama... and in the national championship game he had a massive one carry for zero yards. If you look at his statistics he barely saw the ball anyway, but it really gets impressive when you consider that about 90% of the carries he did get was when they were just trying to run out the clock in garbage time, while up by several touchdowns. If you were to say he had 10 meaningful carries all year, that would probably be a stretch.

At any rate, I think Meyer knows this full well. He knows that Richardson, talented as though he may be, would have little future in the spread option. However, it's like Earle and I were discussing the other day, he wants him for selfish reasons... Meyer is fearful of the thought of Alabama being able to come into Florida and get elite prospects. He wants to put a stop to that before it even gets started by locking up Richardson.

I still feel TR is going to the Capstone. This is the TR pattern: He visits others. He says nice things about others. He says he has a lot to think over. I think you nailed it.

RB Trent Richardson Update (1/27): Info from the LSU visit & UF in-home visit

Tennessee sports radio show reporting that Trent Richardson says Bama and Florida are equal in his eyes as of now. The sportscasters also mentioned that he would be at Tennessee Floppy Top this weekend and he might change his mind. Now, I don't believe the latter for a minute. The former is also questionable.

He is just like every other 18 year old kid, just like we all were, that has a different feeling everyday. But in the end he has been committed to us since mid summer and come feb. 4 he will ink with us.

They're getting their info from Scout.com so it's not accurate. He'll be in Tallahassee this weekend. If you have to question any of it then just take it all as false. . .

The story in the link did not leave me with a warm, fuzzy feeling. While he did not use the word "decommit", UF clearly made up a lot of ground with the in-home visit. I am pleased that we will have Coach Mc, Coach Burns and Coach Willis visiting him on Thursday night. Maybe they can clear his head.

Exactly. What ever ground Meyer may have made up can be gained right back with Coach McElwain, Coach Burns, and Coach Willis. He's also still committed and has been since June 2. So, I find it hard to believe he'll switch, though telling Meyer, Miles, or Bowden will be difficult. However, I think telling Coach Saban that will be even more so.

"I do think that prior to last night, Alabama was still in the lead," Boyd said. "Now it's probably a dead heat until [signing day]."
<<<<Goes to look up the definition of commitment.

Unless CNS visits another RB during the week and/or a new one pops up out of the blue scheduling a visit for this weekend , please rest easy . This saga is no different than the one which kept so many fans on the edge of their seats last year over Julio Jones . Also , remember that every minute a coach spends chasing one of our committed prospects is another minute they lose out on with others .

re: RB Trent Richardson Update (1/27): Info from the LSU visit & UF in-home visit

I am not worried at all about UT, but Urban Meyer's unseemly ability to hynotically sway does have me concerned. I think this is a situation where Coach Willis will hit the ground running and may be able to play a crucial role in really helping us lock Trent down.

I think in the end Trent follows his heart and comes to Tuscaloosa. Remember Trent, if you're reading this--15 touches a game potentially here, or ride the bench in Gainesville most of the time and maybe, MAYBE 2-3 times a game in on the action.

The thing is that Urban Meyer has not shown that he can properly feature a pure tailback in his offensive system. Sure you could argue that with Tebow playing the role of interior ball carrier that their tailback needs have been more for perimeter runners to balance their rushing attack. BUT even when they had more of a traditional drop-back passer (Leak), they struggled to get their every down tailback involved in the offense. In 2006, they still relied on Harvin for all their explosive runs and Tebow for the tough yards.

Richardson knows that their are touches up for grabs in Tuscaloosa. He knows that Saban has no qualms about playing true Freshmen tailbacks ASAP. He knows that we will be able to run the ball effectively from a pro-style attack which will probably increase his draft value. Richardson will sign from Alabama, but Meyer is a good recruiter like Saban and he can spin like the politico in Washington. Don't doubt that Thursday, when Coach Mac and company are in his home that they don't get Saban on the phone for a good talkin'. He'll reaffirm his commitment and come here to be maybe even a bigger star in our offense than Julio Jones.

Given the fact that the odds on favorites to be in ATL in December the next couple of years are probably UA and UF, Meyer is trying to get TR to come to UF as much as he is trying to keep TR from going to UA. I see the UA-UF recruiting of TR as kind of a payback for the whole UF-UA recruitment of Tebow. What goes around comes around so to speak.

Yeah, but Tebow's recruitment was open the whole time Alabama was recruiting him with Shula. This whole deal smells of just playing keep away. "Yeah, I have no use for a true pro-style every down back...I prefer guys who can attack the perimeter, but you could help Alabama make my life harder. So I'll try to smooth talk you into sitting behind a bunch of 5-8 scat backs."

Yep keep away and what was mentioned earlier in the thread about Saban pulling out the Sunshine State's finest which of course Meyer wants to shut down.

BTW looking back do you really believe Tebow's recruitment was truly open or just something orchestrated by ESPN. I mean that has "silent commit" written all over it to me.
