It appears to me, we aren't going to take another RB just to take one. It's going to have to be a special player (ie: McCoy, Spiller, or Eason).

I agree, we are pretty deep at running back now. I am wondering if they don't take another QB for the same reasons unless it's Tebow, maybe not even Smelley.

"Another Curtis Dawson"

I don't know what you mean by that, but that is unfair to Prince, IMO. Dawson was dismissed from the team for repeatedly getting into trouble, and I don't think we have heard on instance of Prince Hall getting into any kind of trouble.

As far as his ability as a LB, he looks good to me from what I have seen of him on film. I think his 40 was in the 4.7 range, but that can and will be improved through strength and conditioning.

Curtis Dawson was a MLB, expected to step in early, and enjoyed the cafeteria too much. He could not keep his weight down, and was moved to the line.

Curtis was going to be a DT all the way regardless. Anyone who saw him play high school football knew that. Hopefully he has everything in order now that he has had some time away from football and can come back and be a good DT for us. He still has three years of eligibility left, he could really help us.

Again, I don't think it's fair to compare the two when admittedly you have no idea how Hall has progressed this season either on the football field or in the weight room. This much is clear: he hasn't been moved to DT.

FYI, Hall reported to Alabama in the 240-245 range. Dawson was in the 265 range.

Curtis Dawson is no longer with the team. He was dismissed from the team for unspecified disciplinary reasons well before this season started. I have heard there may be an opening for him to return to Bama if he complies with certain requirements set by Coach Shula. I don't have any specific details or an update on his current situation.

Ping,

I hope it plays out that way actually. I think Hig is the type of kid who'd do it voluntarily, too. But we'll see how our #'s and qualifiers come out.

I think Hall showing up in August rather than July may have actually helped him in the long run. He might've been close to seeing action had he reported in July. I'm confident that the staff has got the weight off of him and will have 4 years at a proper weight/speed. The only thing I've heard from the players/staff is that he's developed a reputation of a big hitter.

As far as LBs ready to step in next year from this class, I'd say Spikes is the closest, but I think he needs a redshirt to trim a little weight off. Hig needs the rehab, Hutchins, AJ Jones and Odom need to add some weight.

The decision to move Dawson was not immediate. He was seen as a tweener, but a very effective run stuffer at the MLB position with 4.75 speed. He basically made the decision for the staff by eating his way out of the position. This is not to say that Curtis was incredibly out of shape. He was around 260, then got up to 275, but Curtis is a pretty strong individual. He's jokingly said that he preferred MLB, but preferred food more. He is currently working with a trainer and has made great strides conditioning-wise. He's around 285 lbs with significant strength gains. Knowing who is on the team, he expects to be the strongest and fastest DT on the Bama team (if/when he returns). He has some good people around him now, especially his dad, who are staying on top of him. He also likes to socialize, and some wish he would tone this down.

Don't understand why some people take message board comments so personally. The comment about Prince Hall was that I wondered if he would have trouble keeping weight down as well, based on a)high school videos, b) reporting out of shape. Is that a far fetched idea? No.

CS, I'm pretty certain that Curtis is at Lawson State Community College at this time, though I could be wrong about the name.

The info about Dawson as well as the potential of our redshirt freshmen DTs this year seem to answer a question that I had regarding our lack of going after some DT's. Had wondered why we would be content to only sign one. BTW, I think both Fanney/Washington are going to push for significant time next year at DT.

With Tebow's decision one month from today, we should be in good shape to make some serious moves regardless of his decision! If he commits to us, we'll immediately pick up some amazing receiving talent IMHO! If he doesn't commit to us, I still think we're fine because we've got Smelley ready to go if Tebow doesn't pick Bama. If Tebow picks Bama, my personal belief is that Smelley will go elsewhere.

Here is my personal belief....TEBOW comes to Bama. From everything I've heard he is super hot on Coach Shula and company and he is extremely impressed with the facilities and THE FANS! People who say that he would fit great into UF's system are correct, BUT it's not a system that will help him get to the NFL! He will choose to come to either Bama or another PRO STYLE offense...given his choices and the fact that he has said he will not go to Michigan due to it's distance from his family it makes me believe that he won't go to USC for the same reasons! Do you really think he'll attend a school that is a 3 hour time difference from his parents? The West Coast is a different world and he won't do well in the land of OZ! He WILL COMMIT TO BAMA! Mark it down...it's a done deal! He LOVED all of the signs in the stands that were written to him and loved how the fans responded to him! Tebow is ours to lose and let's just hope he realizes HOW MUCH WE WANT AND NEED HIM! He is a man child and will relish in our system!

I hope you are right about Tebow. I have read where some top Rivals.com recruiting analysts and some top Scout.com recruiting analysts say they think that it looks like Tebow is favoring Bama recently. One of them even referenced a phone conversation with Tebow last night. Of course he didn't say where he was going but the indications are making some think he is headed to Tuscaloosa. It sure looks like it is between UF and Bama and a lot of people in the know think Tebow may be leaning to Bama. We have less than a month to wait to hear his commitment. He is scheduled to announce his commitment on ESPN on Dec. 14th. Of course as usual with recruiting anything could change between now and then.

Just read a Mike Mccoy article and it said something about Bama taking the first 2 receivers that commit. If Courtney Smith and Mike Mccoy commit do you guys think Alabama will turn down Fayson, Hawthorne, Alexander, or would they consider those guys athletes??

Maybe it is the first two besides those three. ;) Honestly I have no idea. I wouldn't think Bama would turn down either of those three guys for Mike McCoy or Courtney Smith.

I would hope so, but the way Mccoy said it was like, they let me know that they were recruiting 5 receivers and were only going to take the first two.. Hopefully the first two are Hawthorne and Alexander and they take Fayson as a ATH hehe

Speaking of receivers, does anyone know if Nikita Stover will come in dec/jan
and be able to participate in spring drills or will he have to wait until summer ?
thanks for anyone in the know on this ....

Can anybody shed any light on the WR/S from Walker High, Randy Underwood? I know Bama has a lot of other players targeted at these two posistions. Does Bama have any real interest in him or is the interest primarily from his direction i.e. a Chad Key? The main reason I ask is because his name keeps making the list here.

Guys, just curious, but who out there really comes close to rivalling us on facilities? I know all about the upgrades, I live here in Tuscaloosa and drive by them every day. They are impressive. But i have a hard time believing that no one out there has facilities as good as ours. you guys that know--who do you honestly think comes closest to us in quality of facilities? Just curious...
