Recruiting Weekend Master Merged Thread

Any chance he could move to TE with our depth issues there?

He looks like a tight end to me, too. Or a QB. I sure like him on the offensive side of the ball. BamaMag says he won Offensive Player of the Year his junior year.

He probably doesn't care. And he probably fits in a half dozen places.

He looks competitive.

Maybe Shula has realized that

a passing qb who can run when necessary is an X factor. i don't know about guillon, but it's totally obvious that neither brodie nor spencer can run effectively. i really don't care much about the nfl-type player at qb (although i know this is a draw for recruiting purposes) and with that in mind, gimme a strong arm and quick legs for a college qb. that's not what one needs in the nfl (yes, i'm one of those who dares to say that mike vick is highly overrated as a pro-qb...but was basically unstoppable in college), but this ain't the pros. give him a shot at the qb position! it would really help brodie to be pushed...and from what i saw out of guillon and spencer, there wasn't much pushing going on last pre-season. plus, if you have brodie tossing grenades and a spot-qb at the backup running like a deer, the opposing D and coaches have much more to worry about.

as much of a running threat as he is, they should work up an option package for him in case a couple of QBs go down... we can get back to smashing mouths.

I think I'm in love with that idea :biggrin2:

I am going to be so sad when we have to tell three great rbs they absolutely cannot come to alabama because we have already filled up. I will trust the staff though.

I tried to post a #s crunch up in the sticky's, it's the last post as of right now....we have room, but just barely.

IMO this is a great pick up

We will not lose anyone over this b/c as I said before the other kids know the numbers.............and if they really want to go to UA they would commit as JJ has. Also, he's an athlete and they usually find a place to play. Also,DW never said he was decommitted to OS,just if they got hammered he would go here 1st....well the Ncnazis never hammer the big 10 in football, and we all know that! Also, all the rb's know the score and I think in 10 more days that little story will be over.WR is not a place of need, and in my opinion I sure hope Peek come around. DL has 4 legit prospects and I feel pretty good at least 2 of them commit. Also, back to J Johns welcome to UA young man and I am glad you are aboard!

On the greyshirting

Greyshirting seems to be popular with this coaching staff. And, it seems that it would work out every year if you could get 2 or 3 players to agree to do it. Also, maybe some players would rather delay enrollment, allowing them to get stronger, maybe it works best for the family, etc.

But I was looking towards 2006, and if we have 3 greyshirts this year, and if things work out with past recruits who are in JC, namely Nikita Stover and Jeremie Holifield, then we'll already have 5 commits for 2006. Add in any possible partial qualifiers from the 2005 class who may be able to attend Hargrave and we could have more.

Just thinking out loud, I guess, but it seems the greyshirt practice could really help Alabama rebuild.

Remember that we are intentionally over-signing to make up for any academic casualties.

We have no chance at Rouse. This is a kid who loves the red carpet aspects of the recruiting process and who could blame him. However, I do not see him coming to Alabama when he has said all along that he wants to go where there will be a strong quaterback coming in for 3-4 years. Texas will have Perriloux and USC will have Sanchez. I would say those two are the most likely along with FSU. JMO.

I am just thankful the receivers we have, have so much potential.

I think we have a pretty good QB coming in next year also. Jimmy Barnes! JB will be playing in this all star game this weekend. maybe Jimmy has a huge game and does a little recruiting for us to.

Just one caution...

on greyshirting. It's sort of like living off your credit cards. It made a lot of sense the last couple of years, because we promised to have more slots downstream to soak them up. That's soon no longer going to be true. Most of the other schools who recruit well have not been able to even come close to filling out their 25 - because they are bumping up against their 85 overall limit. Next year, that will start to kick in for us also...
