Personally I just can't see Miller not playing every day. I know that he doesn't have a big bat (I think he hit about .280 last year with no power), but he is a solid defensive outfielder, and can make things happen on offense with his speed. He certainly isn't going to get hot sitting on the bench. The kid went through the wars last year and conducted himself well.

I also know that Smith is one of the only legit power guys we have, and that he needs to be in the lineup. I have heard people say that he should probably be at first, but then you have MacGavin and Rosecrans to find a spot for.

What would you do? Can Miller not play left? Is Smith's arm so good that he has to play right instead of left? Obviously Smith has to play, but are Rosecrans and MacGinnis so good that we have to sit Andrew Miller?

And no, I am not Andrew Miller or someone in his family. I am just askin'. :)

I agree 100 %. Andrew Miller needs to be in RF period. Someone made a good point to platoon him and Hendricks depending on if we're facing a LHP or RHP .

I also know Smith swings it so well he has to either DH or play 1B.

I wonder how much we'd lose putting Smith at 3rd and moving Booth to 2nd. Miller needs to be in RF. He's a proven commodity in my mind until Hendricks proves he can hit more than a bp fastball.

If Smith can just provide passable defense at an outfield corner, you could stick him in left and shift Kelton to second base. Miller can provide solid defense in right with an above-average, accurate arm. Or you could potentially maximize the offensive potential of the lineup by using baseballfanatic's suggestion; the tradeoff, obviously, would be a downgrade in infield defense.

It's way too early for McGavin's stats to have much meaning, but sometimes, you just have to go with the hot hand. Smith is swinging the bat with authority and Rosecrans has shown impressive plate discipline. I think they have to be in the lineup no matter what.

Hi Guys -first time here and thought I would add my two cents. I really think everyone is hitting the panic button way too early. This team is very young and needs to gel together instead of shifting everyone in and out. Looking back at last year and as bad as Smith and Wilson struggled at the plate Gaspard stuck with them. Right now the only two hitting with any consistency are Reaves and Dugas. Smith is not an outfielder he lacks the speed and judgement to play out there, I would rather see him at first with Rosecrans than McGavin. Another thought is Smith could DH instead of Kindred unless situation caused for a lefty at the plate. Our pitching is definately a different story- bullpin and starters for that matter must improve drastically.

No doubt. We can hit .380 as team, doesn't matter if the other teams are hitting .400, your gonna lose....
