Already, some folks are getting the ire up within the ranks of TideFans because they think they are just now coming aboard. Maybe there is more to talk about now. Please let me enlighten a few dedicated Tide Roundball fans. Several years ago, before the people within it, absolutely destroyed Major League Baseball, I was the biggest fan in Alabama. Read all I could about the game, listen on the radio, go to B'ham to see the Old Barons. Piersall, Dropo, Country Brown, etc.
After following baseball year round, it would gripe the fire out of me for people to discuss the world series, knowing they didn't give a crap about the regular season. To get interested at this late date. How stupid of me. I guess I thought me and the few other dedicated baseball people could support the system. I hate to enlighten a few good people but this is the exact lay of the land. A couple of years ago I was there in The Coliseum with a friend in the Athletic Department watching "The Night of Champions". I told him I had read where the Coach (Mike) wanted a better place to play ball. I ask him why the good folks didn't do some remodeling. His words were "We will after he begins to fill up what we have now". I guess what I'm saying is, if you don't have the funds to underwrite the project, you had best recruit a fan base larger than what's there now. Don't run off a cash customer who also enjoys championship competition. I may be wrong, but that's my $.02. RTR

Thank you. I enjoy bama Basketball. I just dont feel like I have something to say worth contributing or knowledgeable, so I just post my congrats and move on. But my dad is schooling me on Basketball now, so I should learn how to pick up more.

Roll4Ever:

You are correct, as usual.

For a program to grow, fans must be willing to encourage and teach new fans, not discourage or disparage them.

Let's not degrade anyone who desires to be a fan.....One doesn't have to know the finer points of where the back man on a 1-3-1 Zone should slide or how the low post is affected on a stack offense to be able to enjoy the game.

The most novice fan can understand putting the ball in the hoop.......so, let them all in........the bandwagon isn't nearly full. For the first time since 1986-87 we are in position to make some major noise on the National Scene........

So, come on in!!! We need all the support we can get.......what's a shame to me is that we are the #4 team in the country, and if we get 4 posts a day, we're doing well......

Yet.....we can talk about Coach Fran maybe leaving 15 different ways.........and yet Coach Gottfried is coaching one of the best teams in the country......

Roll Tide!!

Cajun, you hit the nail on the head! I have been a Bama fan all my life...football and basketball and baseball. It really does not matter what sport it is, all that matters is that it is Bama.

We have the best coach in the SEC and one of the top young coaches in the nation...we have got to translate some of the enthusiasm we have for football over to Coleman!

I would love to learn more about basketball. The high school from whence I graduated was a perennial power in basketball and my father wanted me to play(he was a player on one of their less-than-stellar teams of the 60's), but being 5'11", 205 didn't give me a good chance. I wasn't quick enough to be a guard, our forwards were about 6'4" on average, and our center was a tower. I also hated running those double-deadmans.

So, I became a fullback in football. I had extraordinary leg strength(700 lb. leg press, 1000+ lb. calf-extensions) and might could have played in college if I didn't have such weak ankles. I continually had sprains, two of them so severe I had to wear a cast. By the time basketball season came around, I was usually on crutches.

I know football very well, but just never learned that much about B-Ball, having never played it in an organized form.

I'll do some research and maybe I can come back and shoot the $#*% witch'all.

I am coming over to this board in response to a post asking people to send some support to Caoch Gottfied. I would love to have an email address where I could send him a note of appreciation.

I have been an avid college basketball fan for only about twenty years; and I will admit that I never followed Bama Basketball until last year, although I have been a Bama football fan for fifty years at least.

I was originally a Memphis BB fan, but became enamored of the Duke program in the middle eighties when I moved to Williamsburg, VA and was exposed to cable TV coverage of the ACC for the first time.

CMG has done a wonderful job with the Tide program, and he deserves recognition and support.

IH8Orange, it has some things in common with football. Strong defense and not turning the ball over are very important in both sports. In spite of the common perception, quickness is more important than height. Height is an issue only when quickness is relatively equal. Like football, fundamentals are a key.
Play good defense, rebound, take care of the basketball, be prudent in shot selection, make your free throws. No matter what the level, these win. All the other stuff is window dressing, unless there is a vast talent disparity. As I am sure you have noticed, strength is a factor as well, both in rebounding and in establishing and holding offensive or defensive position. I hope you will find your way to be a regular participant on the basketball board.
