When my co-worker mentioned this a moment ago, I thought he was joking with me.

My first take: someone at Bastrop or close to the family is doing Auburn a favor. A visit from the #1 recruit, while offering no possibility of actually signing him, really helps with the perception of your program.

Another scarier thought: what if Auburn will let RR play quarterback and turn over the whole offense to him, a la Pat White?

Ehhh...it doesn't bother me at all. If that does happen, he may be a prolific player. If he comes here he may be a prolific player. But either way, it's going to take 10 more people on the field with him that are just as good at their respective positions to make him look his best. I think he has that best opportunity here or at LSU.

He was supposed to visit Ok. State, but is visiting the Barn now. He was being recruited by the Ok. State RB. coach that is now at Auburn. Long-shot to get him, regardless.

Sorry for being negative but thats what our experience with new QBs has taught us.I didn't mean to imply that you'll have a Qb like Lee who'll keep on throwing pick sixes. But whenever you have a first time starter at QB the team struggles.People here are saying that the team would be better in some ways than the 12-2 team.I was just curious to know how?

I think you actually bring up a good question. Our QB's are an unkown and that is a fact. However, here is where I believe you veered: you guys replaced a very good QB from last year and we will be replacing a serviceable QB. It has been said, even from CNS, that the strength of JPW and what seperated him from everyone else was his leadership. I don't think we will see a big drop off from QB and I even think we will see an improvement. What remains up in the air is if our future QB's learned how to be a leader.

QB's should not be even brought up as a concern. If you want to know a concern for next year, look to the O-line as that was the strength of this years team.

Spoke to a barner this morning, this is the biggest news to hit their campus in years. they are really in a tizzy over this. I can't state how low brow it seems to have an assistant recruiting you at one school then switch in mid steam and try to sell a recruit on a different school. Sometimes the recruit requests the visit and the coach isn't going to turn him away but in this case I would be surprised if that was the case.

I tried to warn him that its probably a 95% chance he will be at LSU and he's just enjoying the process. You always want to take your shot but I don't recall the last time a top name got pulled out of Louisiana. I only think we have a slight chance at best

Agreed. If he plays in the state of Alabama, I highly doubt it will be for Auburn.

Well, there was Joe McKnight that got pulled out of LA. I don't think Randle will end up at the Barn, but I do think we have better than a 5% chance.

The fact he isn't taking an official to LSU, has been so quiet, visited us during the bowl practice, appears to be coming for an official to T-town, has been on numerous unofficial visits to Bama, seems to like playing with AJ, our QB situation over the next four years looks better for a WR than LSUs. McElroy, Jackson, Mccarron vs. Jefferson, Lee, Shepard, add in Julio's Success and the chance to line up opposite him. Plus our graduation rate seems to be something that would appeal highly to his parents considering he seems to come from a very intelligent and respectible family. I think we still have a great shot he'll end up in crimson. - JMO

Better than 5%? Sure, I'll buy that, I think he's taking Bama seriously. Great shot? I don't know . . . looks more like a long shot right now, but it's not a done deal.

The fact he isn't taking an official to LSU
Means very little as many times as he has visited unofficially and as well as he knows the players, the school, and the coaches. He obviously wants to take his opportunities to travel out of state.

Crimson glasses, amigo. Neither team has an established quarterback, but three of LSU's do have experience as a starter.

Yeah one has experience throwing TD's to the enemy, one got hurt and wasn't very good to begin with, and Jefferson has looked ok I'll admit.

I'd take two 4 star unknowns (Star and AJ) and a McElroy who's looked good when he has played over Lee (pick six), Shephard (I'd rather run than throw), Hatch (probably won't step foot on the field again).

Jefferson is LSU's only hope...

Lol... you're going to make statements like that and then accuse someone else of having a colored view of the football landscape, now that's funny.

But hey, if you want to think that having the greatest interception tosser this conference has seen in decades, a Harvard transfer walk-on, and a true freshman who played only because the top two were laughably terrible or unable to stay healthy, gives you guys an advantage because they have a few games each under their belt (all the while they were getting beat every time they faced a decent opponent, if not entirely blown out), then have fun living with that amount of delusion.

Does Boise State and Ohio State come to mind? Both teams had a first year starter, one a red shirt freshman and the other a true freshman. Both did very well.

Getting back to Randle... I think we probably need to cool it on these threads about him.

First and foremost, there really just isn't much news out there, end of story. He'll announce somewhere near, or on, National Signing Day, and he's going to be very tight-lipped until then. There is just no news to speak of, plain and simple, and it just turns into really long threads recycling the same things.

Second, I think everyone probably needs a dose of a realism. Be honest... Randle is probably going to sign with LSU, so you might as well prepare yourself for that. We're going them one hell of a fight, and it's very close, but take it from someone who has been following recruiting for a very long time... it's extremely difficult to pull someone away from the in-state school when (1) the in-state school has very strong support throughout the state, and (2) when that school has been doing very well in recent years. Obviously both apply to LSU, and thus Randle will be a very difficult pull. He's probably LSU bound. Hope for the best, mind you, but come to terms with that basic reality.

Again, I'm not trying to be a Debbie Downer here, but I do think these threads need a dose of realism. There is no real news on Randle -- and hundreds of message board posts on the subject don't change that -- and he's probably going to end up a Tiger anyway.
