Good Lord. We‘ve got Ukraine fighting Putin instead of Americans. We are backing them up in hopes Putin doesn’t want to engage NATO By attacking other European countries.

Trump’s plan to force Ukraine to surrender and to also withdraw our country from NATO is something straight out of Putin’s wildest dreams.

Advocating we abandon Ukraine and pull out of NATO so we can avoid being involved in another world war is simplistic thinking at best.

Well, heck. You don't seem to remember Ronnie Reagan demanding: "Mr. Gorbachev, please reinforce this wall."

You think Ukrainians will be flying those F16s. About the same as North Veitnam pilots flew those Russian Migs. Same with the anti-missile systems? Ukrainians are manning and maintaining them. And if Nato goes to war with Russia there will be plenty of Americans die.
There will be no war with NATO, unless Putin loses his last two brain cells. IF F-16s fly, they most certainly wouldn't be flown by Americans. We don't have any pilots left who know how to fly one, except for our trainers who train the countries who buy them...

The Thunderbirds are still using F-16s. Given their schedule, I doubt they are also trainers.

We still have lots of F16s in service.

In fact they just sortied yesterday in concert with F35s when a couple of Chinese and Russian bombers approached Alaska.
Why are the Chinese and Russians flying together? Or was it a coincidence they were in the same area?

Putin's objective, if he should live so long, is to get the US back across the Atlantic. Then takeover the Baltic states by force if necessary. He has Hungary in his camp without firing a shot and plenty of sympathetic ears in Romania. Who is going to stop him if the dictator of the US is on his side or neutral? Not Germany! Poland is committed to their independence but they can't take on Putin without the US to back them up.

Not an expert by any means as Tidewater is but can look at a map.

When the invasion of Ukraine cost the Russians whatever friends they still had in Europe, the Chinese filled the void and China and Russia both got closer to each other. I would not yet call it an alliance, but I would call it a marriage of convenience.

Historically, the Chinese hate the Russians don't they? They share a common enemy ( us ) at the moment. I wouldn't want them to become to chummy.

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

“who cares about NATO?! We’re gonna make our own alliance. With blackjack. And hookers”

TW, your depth of knowledge about European history is truly impressive.
Agreed. Also impressive is Tidewater's depth of knowledge of the events leading up to the Civil War. Yet, while TW's knowledge of these subject far out pace's anyone else's on this board, the left only appreciates his knowledge of modern European history. Since his scholarship on 19th century American history doesn't fit the leftist tribal narrative, it is dismissed and often mocked. On that subject, I've never seen a group so proud not to know something. Funny how that works. 🤷‍♂️

Odd. I've never seen TW mocked or dismissed. Don't know how I missed that...

US Soldier detained in Russia.
A US soldier, in the process of "PCSing" (conduct a Permanent Change of Station) from Korea to somewhere in the states decided to take a side trip to see his Russian "girlfriend" in Vladivostok, where, surprise! He was arrested on what are most likely trumped up charges.
His government provided itinerary, I'm sure, did not pass through Vladivostok, but he changed it on his own.
I know for a fact that a trip to a foreign country on your own dime requires prior declaration and permission from government authorities, so this probably was not declared and approved. (If he had asked, his chain of command would have asked him, "Are you high? You're being set up. Of course you cannot go to Vladivostok. Permission denied."
Now this guy is learning of the wonders of the Russian justice system, just like Brittany Griner, Paul Whelan, and Evan Gershkovich.
When will people learn: Do not go to Russia. Your innocence has nothing to do with you being arrested or not. Your passport says everything.
Exclusive-US Army stops paying soldier imprisoned in Russia, may prosecute him
Ouch. US Army playing hardball.
Sometimes you have to slam one stupid guy "afin d'encourager les autres."
I can see the First Sergeant now, "Hey, any of you knuckleheads want to do something this stupid? I didn't think so."

Ukraine received its first delivery of F-16 fighter jets this week in a boost to President Volodymyr Zelensky's forces in its ongoing war with Russia, according to a new report.

On Wednesday, Bloomberg first reported that Ukraine received a delivery of F-16 fighter jets, citing anonymous sources with knowledge of the situation. Bloomberg also reported that it is currently unclear if Ukrainian pilots will be able to immediately use the planes as war with Russia rages on. A U.S. official also confirmed the delivery to the Associated Press on Wednesday.
