I believe Ryan makes the 11th drowning in the FL/AL gulf waters in the past two weeks. I hate this for his family and loved ones, but it's a tragedy that could be prevented. The flag system is there for a reason and red or double red means trouble. From the naked eye, the water looks so calm, until you hit the rip currents. Most who drown are out of towners - they have no idea how deadly the water can be.

I thought for sure he had our number in 2010 following the first half. Good player in Petrino’s system.

Double digit deaths in the Gulf from the panhandle to Gulf Shores over the past 10-14 days. Lots of rip currents

Where ever there's BBQ, Bourbon & Football
Whether it is hunting, boating, hiking, etc., when dealing with nature it is of utmost importance to educate yourself and your loved ones about safety and even more, to respect nature. The rip tide that seemingly got Ryan Mallet is a very real thing. I had to save my mother-in-law from it one time while in Orange Beach, AL. I can promise, after I finally got her up and out of the water from being slammed straight down to the bottom I can promise you she is now a believer. These flags aren't a joke nor a suggestion, they are meant to keep you alive.

My daughter and I are going to PCB next week as we do each year. You have to pay attention and comply with the flag system. It's very easy to get into a bad situation quickly.

So true. I rescued a mother and daughter last year from the same situation. Daughter was struggling and mom went out to recover her. Mom was just about to drown but the daughter stayed calm. I gave the daughter a boogie board to hold while I took mom in. By the time I got mom in the daughter had already been taken way out by the current. I got back out to her and we just went parallel to the coast and eventually got back in. Granted we were waaay down the beach by then. Better to walk than to drown. She did the BEST thing of all…Dont Panic.

That was the worst current I had experienced in 30+ years of going to the Gulf. If they say it’s bad people should listen
