i was never really sold on Pollard. I think any calls for that guy to come back are crazy.
I agree. The chances of Pollard returning to Bama are slim & none in my opinion. Pollard was training them Coach Fraud's way. It was as if they were training for a power lifting competition.

Coach Johnston is still training them for strength, but also for explosion, quickness, flexibility, and speed. You can see the results of his training showing up this year. Coach Johnston is one of the best in the business and he brought back the lower gym mentality. I am hopeful it is not a done deal but apparently Coach Johnston wants to return to Texas and start a private business. If he retires I am confident that Coach Shula will get a good one to replace him.

I'm not the prude...

Brett is. That guy looks a lot like a guy I used to backpack with, way back before Simmons was even heard of. This guy was, however, also an exhibitionist. He leave the trail and then pop back on, nude (he had this lousy body, which looked like Simmons). Once, he did that and one of the girls said, "Oh, David, go put your clothes back on!" He slunk off and returned, re-robed. He even usually wore a tank top... :D

Isn't he fairly young?

I didn't see the article (believe it was a paid membership article) so I don't know what it said. Perhaps there's some family/medical issues he's having to deal with and if so, good luck. Or maybe it's just personal preference and he and his family would like to live elsewhere. Either way, it's his life and I wish him well and thank him for the work he's done for the program.

Why does this news surprise everyone? I recall from the moment he came on board that Shula asked Johnston to postpone his retirement to help him out (am I remembering that incorrectly). I'd be willing to bet that the agreement from the beginning was for Johnston to only stay on for a couple of years.

We'll be fine. With the program as stable as it is I'm sure getting a top notch S&C coach that suits CMS won't be that difficult.

I dont' think...

KJ was the one CMS asked to postpone retirement. He did ask CDR to come out of retirement, which may be what you're thinking of. Pollard was the only "hold-over" whom CMS replaced. Draw what conclusions from that as you will. At first, the kids didn't see a lot of difference with the workouts, but that changed. This last summer, I think the kids saw what KJ was all about. The speed workouts were brutal, with selected "rabbits" (the fastest guys on the team) and the others ran 400m after 400m, matched against a predetermined time. Early in the summer, some had to be carried off. Now, we have the payoff - everyone's amazed at our team speed. I doubt the kids are...

Looks like we are in the market for a new S&C coach...

We started hearing about this about a month ago. Mitch Dobbs has broke the story over on Bamamag so I figure it's safe to break it here also. The staff (IE: Shula) has yet to make an announcement about it but all indications are he's going to retire at the end of this season. I understand that he's been in business for himself for quite a while now and has turned that business into one of those 7 figure incomes....something to do with workout equipment. I've heard two names being bantered around...one being Kerry Goode and the other Rocky....gosh, can't think of his last name.

Colburn....

currently working under Al Miller at ATL. FWIW, Miller was on our staff back under The Coach. DuBose offered Miller the job back in his tenure but Miller turned down the offer.

Seriously though, TerryP, what are the reputations of those two gentlemen?
You don't recognize the names? <g>

I've heard good things about both....but, like I said they are just names being bantered around. I honestly don't know where Shula will go in this situation. I asked Coach Moore about it Friday night before the USC game and didn't get much of a response...not that I expected one.

I'll bet Coach Shula knows this guy....

http://www.nfl.com/teams/story/TB/6064908

He's originally from Mississippi...may be he might like to get back a little closer to home.

I like this quote:

"I coach people, not the weights," he says. "What I've learned in twenty-seven years of doing this is that athletes want somebody who cares and somebody who can help them improve. They won't care how much you know until they know how much you care."

Parker sounds like he'd be a great choice, but I doubt BAMA could pay him enough to lure him away from an NFL team. Of course, I'd much rather have Coach Shula as a boss than Jon Gruden.

Let's not forget that Terry Jones Sr. holds a Masters rating in S&C and he's already familiar with every facet of our current program.

The best thing about this ......

We discussing the S&C coach and not the head coach or offensive/defensive coordinator.

We're dsicussing which BCS bowl we'll make and not whether or not we'll make (or be eligible for) a bowl.

All is getting right in the universe.
