EXACTLY!!!anyone that would get upset about Saban's comments either wasn't listening or has an agenda.
There are way more Barners in Birmingham and all around than you thought. Over the last 10 years or so it is unbelievable how many casual fans of Alabama have switched over to Auburn. I personally know some lifelong Bama fans that have switched allegiances or that have become almost neutral and apathetic towards Bama. They say that is the case for many different reasons, some actually buy into and believe what the media is saying with the negative attacks on Bama. That is what is fueling this whole media mess. In my opinion the bitter hatred between the Barners and Bama fans is unhealthy and the state media plays on it big time. This is just futher proof of the downward spiral the country is in. I forget who it was who said it but we truly are the United States of Offended. I have no problem with what he said and if i did why should it matter. I choose to listen and I continued to listen after he said it and agian who cares. ESPN should stick to covering sporting news instead of making sporting news.
I would like someone to tell me something. I always thought of birmingham, huntsville, and mobile as bama towns and Montgomery an AU town. So why is there always so much negative in the B'ham news- why doesn't all the bama fans not buy the papers for a month to get these guys out of there? Or is there more Barners in B'ham than i thought.
Well technically.............Agree Scarb's column is laughable ... pollitical correctness run amok ... mistaking an analogy for a comparison.
Right ... the key being "in some respect." Any of us who have majored in something other than journalism know that an analogy says: A is to B as C is to D.Well technically.............
The definition of analogy is "drawing a comparison in order to show a similarity in some respect."
IOW... the analogy is valid only in the qualified context. Saban communicated the context of the analogy in the prior statements. He didn't explicitly state the context and exclude all other contexts and apparently journalists aren't intelligent enough to deduce that.An analogy "compares" two things only in the exact sense specified in the analogy.
