Imagine being dumb enough to think a conference wouldn't add Texas if they wanted in.

Texas just won the Director's Cup (best athletic department in the country).

Texas is the richest athletic department in the country.

Texas triggers everyone so it = eyeballs on games.

Calling it now. If this goes down, the Big Ten does not sit idle. I think they get Kansas. Yes, because of basketball and academics.

Beyond that it is tricky and depends on how well the ACC is held together. Notre Dame is a mystery. If forced, and that’s the only way they join anything, they will go with the ACC.
Iowa st, if Iowa allows it. they are an AAU school! There is a rumor the B1G will go after UNC and UVA

They are quite delusional. If they are so great, why have half the teams they’ve been affiliated with over the years done everything they could to get away from them? And why are they still there? Money isn’t everything and literally no one of note gives a baker’s damn about the Director’s Cup.

I think if Texas and Oklahoma are on the move then UCF and Memphis are about to be huge additions somewhere.
Most likely. What’s left of the Big 12 is going to want to try to survive I’m sure. And if the ACC gets poached, then they are likely looking at the top AAC schools first.

Not so exciting times we are living in, if you ask me.

Iowa St’s issue isn’t Iowa it’s Nebraska. Iowa and ISU have more of a friendly rivalry. I really think Nebraska couldn’t stomach another team in Iowa being better than them.

Kansas and TCU are the remaining prizes. I would assume the ACC probably gets Cincy and West Virginia and the Big 1 gets Kansas and another team.

If I were in Sankey’s shoes, I’d have to consider the addition of two of the biggest names in college sports, i.e., not just football.

BUT…..I’d also say that two points are a condition of any further negotiations.

First, the policy around distribution of funds will be the same for all schools and all sports. Any arrangement wherein any school gets an outsized share of any conference money from any athletic competition of any kind or any payor, is a non-starter. Not negotiable. Don’t like it? Don’t care. There’s the door.

Second, we’re not taking OSUs. No way. No how. Not negotiable. Whatever the Oklahoma legislature might have to say is not our problem. No OSUs. Can’t make that happen? Not our problem. Don’t care. There’s the door.

Agreeing to those points doesn’t guarantee anything. It means only that we have something to talk about.

If you don’t agree to both points, we have nothing to discuss. Go on about your way.

But you’re not exactly known for straight dealing. Looking at you, UTw. So there’s something else.

Even if you agree to the first two conditions up front, we’re concerned about your track record.

To keep you from agreeing up front and then attempting to re-trade the deal, there’s a third condition: if you try to re-trade the deal, you’re liable for all legal fees of all parties. You’ll guarantee that by posting a $25 million retainer / escrow, in cash, and agree to treble damages if the $25 million isn’t sufficient.

If you don’t try any shenanigans, you get your money back after the deal is signed. If you do, we deduct legal fees from the escrow / retainer, and refund the difference. If it turns out $25 million isn’t enough, we’re coming after you for triple the difference…which, by the way, you’ve already agreed to.

Any disputes will be settled in a state court in the SEC Office’s state of domicile. Which I think is Alabama, but could be Georgia. Don’t like it? You shouldn’t have jobbed a long line of erstwhile business parters.

Did I make it clear I don’t trust UTw as far s I could throw Phil Fulmer?

Tony Soprano (Texas) called up Johnny Sack (OU) and said, "I've come up with a way we can strongarm these wannabes in Ames and Manhattan. I mean, youz knows and I'z knows dere's no way dis gonna happen. But these guys NEED us. They NEED us. And so we just leverage them for a greater cut of the conference loot, and it's win/win."

Johnny Sack (the calm, smoking one - usually) - "Sounds good. You think it'll work?"

Texas Tony - "Of coyse, you know dey got nowhere ta go. We already got the biggest take anyway."

Johnny Sack - "Could be. But then again, you told me Saban was coming, too."
I agree. It is a power play just like the last time they flirted with USF and Houston.

If Texas did join the SEC, they would want to bring along the Longhorn Network. If that happened, I might just quit watching the SEC.
Interesting point, I'm not sure if texas has branding rights, that may just belong to Fox Sports. I doubt ESPN would want to make an exclusive deal with Texas solely. Hopefully all of this will be a moot point

Gee, and we get the typical Texas JR Ewing posture. “Any conference would love to have us.”

I not only recall when Saban to Austin was a done deal, I recall when the Longhorn Network was going to make everyone rich. It’s been a disaster by all accounts.

I’m assuming Texas is playing the old “if this conference don’t take us, this other one will” game.

I’m guessing you have access to financial information that Sankey doesn’t have access to😊. My guess is there is something else looming around the corner that could be prompting this. There’s been talk of the Power 5 breaking away from the NCAA for football, so maybe that is playing into it. I’m not trying to say that I’m in favor of the idea. I’m simply speculating like most of us on here as to the why. I frankly wish we could show some loyalty to A&M since they had the gonads to make the move and one up UT, but my guess is the reason this is under consideration is strategic and financially based.
You don't know that...and i don't appreciate your smart aleck retort. This board is known for civility...Grow up.
As to the subject, nothing has been confirmed other than a rumor. Even contacts in Texas say it is nothing...at best UT trying to shake more money out of the Big 12 or ESPN.

If the SEC turns them down, the Big Ten will not. And the ACC surely will not. So it may be the best play is for the SEC to take them just so the other big player can’t. Or so the weakling in the room (ACC) doesn’t turn into a legit competitor.
If we end up talking a super-conference breakaway, you likely still need four conferences.

I'm fine with the Big-12 dying. I have been all along. I actually hoped that the Pac-16 thing happened, with the SEC sniping Texas A&M. Here's the thing.

If Texas and Oklahoma have to move, they know that the SEC is the best geographic fit. They go to the Pac-12 and they're split up, and playing on west coast times. A lot of regional fans can just watch the SEC if they want football. They go to the Big 10, and now you have Nebraska, Penn State, Michigan, Oklahoma, Ohio State, and Texas all beating each other up? Meanwhile you have another geographical break. Are regional fans really going to spent their time watching Ohio State and Michigan play after years of watching Texas A&M and Arkansas?

Remember, Nebraska did not adjust well at all to joining the Big 10. Oklahoma could meet a similar fate. Then you have the ACC. Right now Clemson is clubbing baby seals. If Clemson, FSU, Notre Dame, Texas and Oklahoma have to play each other regularly? Welcome to a more SEC-like schedule, fine by me. Some regional issues there to though, they're traveling through SEC states to play ACC teams.

Basically, I'm not concerned at all by the idea of Texas and Oklahoma joining a conference not named the SEC. The SEC is still in a position of power, and there will be ripples. The SEC sat out early expansion activity last round and still arguably got the best additions. If the Big 12 breaks up, there will be a winner of that, but it will force other moves. The SEC will still be in a good position.

If you want to consider negative implications, look at the Longhorn Network. It epitomizes the arrogance of Texas but also that everything they touch doesn't turn to gold. Look at the damage Texas is doing to the Big 12 at this very moment. I don't want any of that, the SEC will be fine sitting this round out.
