Wait I seem to remember the state of Oklahoma having a law that Oklahoma and Okie Lite have to be in the same conference? Am I wrong or was that just an urban legend?
I think it's more of the case that if one goes both have to go option things, Texas politics had put that in as well to (allegedly) protect ATM. Texas was free to go to the Pac Nobody or whatever, but the Aggies had to tag along, too. It's a protective thing that Kansas and Iowa don't have I guess - because who cares outside those states about their teams?

Why not just say this isn't happening and just get it over with Sankey lol ... now it just looks fishy.

Again, I think the two teams are just jockeying for what the want in the Big 12. I'm sure they reached out to the SEC about expansion to make it look creditable. I've been wrong before but this one just seems to make no sense.
I think you read too much into Sankey's reply.

No doubt conference realignment is coming - I'd be shocked to see both TX & OK added to the SEC. Perhaps OK - TX boosters will do everything possible to avoid TAM.

It makes no financial sense. None. We have Texas A&M to pull in the viewers in the Southwest. They need us a heck of a lot more than we need them.
I’m guessing you have access to financial information that Sankey doesn’t have access to😊. My guess is there is something else looming around the corner that could be prompting this. There’s been talk of the Power 5 breaking away from the NCAA for football, so maybe that is playing into it. I’m not trying to say that I’m in favor of the idea. I’m simply speculating like most of us on here as to the why. I frankly wish we could show some loyalty to A&M since they had the gonads to make the move and one up UT, but my guess is the reason this is under consideration is strategic and financially based.

They tried it last time. But what is often forgotten was how the Oklahoma President said “ we aren’t considering the SEC because of their low academic standards compared to us”

My guess is we are going to see a 32 team SEC in 3 years. All the major non ACC schools from Va to TX and MO south will be invited / included and there will be a breakaway league.

IIRC, all 14 SEC teams would have to vote 'yes' to accept the dirt thieves and the shorthorns - I can't see that happening.
That’s an unofficial rule. The actual rule is 75%. Considering 3 teams are automatically voting against Texas (Arkansas, Missouri, and aTm) that requires only 2 more teams to vote against it to kill the move. I don’t think Alabama and Auburn are going to be thrilled going East, you might have push back from MSU about the threat to their baseball factory, and Florida may be 100% against it on the finances.

More or less Texas is probably not going to ever happen. Oklahoma… who knows?

If TWO teams are going to be added to the SEC, my preference would be Oklahoma and Notre Dame. I do NOT like Notre Dame, but I THINK I like them much better than Texas. And I say that while remembering 1966, you know that year of the missing ring! Remember! A TIE is like KISSING your sister! I also remember Joe Namath scoring against Texas to defeat Texas, but that BLIND official said that Joe did not enter the end zone! Let Texas be an ARROGANT Independent. Hmmmmm. when does our home and home series begin vs Texas? Is it 2023 and 2024? The LHN keeps playing OLD games on that network. BORING!!!!!!! The only thing that I've enjoyed watching on the LHN is Graduation a couple of years ago when Michael Dell was the Commencement Speaker.

I heard on the radio today that it would require 11 voted to admit another school.

An SEC source said for Texas and Oklahoma to join the 14-member SEC would require a three-fourths majority vote, meaning at least 11 schools would have to approve. At least one school in College Station would likely vote no.

help me out with this one
Dyslexic moment? Heh...
I meant to type TLDR which stands for too long didn't read.

As far as the vote discussion, we're basically having a debate between official and unofficial rules. The question though is it worth angering multiple SEC teams to add Texas and Oklahoma? No one has to stay in the SEC, you rock the boat too much and these programs don't have to stick around.

I’m guessing you have access to financial information that Sankey doesn’t have access to😊.
Sometimes moves are made for political reasons. We don't even know for sure Sankey is interesting, heck we don't even know for sure that Texas and Oklahoma are. Let's just assume the interesting is mutual though.

The SEC added a signing limit. Then, on their own they decided to lower it to 25. At the time they said something along the lines of they expected NCAA legislation or other movement (paraphrasing a bit) to lead other conferences to adopt this rule. 0 conferences did this. Not a single one followed suit.

Not only that, but word came out that SEC head coaches were universally against this! So, they got together and had a vote to do something their head coaches didn't want. They justified this with an entirely false assumption. Why did they do this? Purely for the sake of appearances, basically just for political reasons.

So, even if the SEC does move towards this doesn't mean it's purely because it's a sound financial move. It could just be for the prestige. It could be a group of elite people out of touch with the football programs got together and decided they wanted to do this because they think it is a good idea. It doesn't mean it is...

Here is another thing some aren’t considering. If this happens then it really takes the SEC championship out of Atlanta. Texas is located in Central Texas. With Alabama moving to the East it would almost guarantee you that the SECCG is either at Arrowhead, NOLA, or Jerry World.
Just another reason this is never going to fly. Atlanta isn’t losing that game. The only scenario I could see is Jerry World and Atlanta rotating. Arrowhead is a non-starter. They aren’t playing the game in an open air stadium in what would likely be crappy climate.

No, there is a reason this was leaked today but it’s not because it’s a realistic possibility. Someone is hoping to influence something here… but like I said earlier what in the world does the Big 12 still have to offer Texas? You can’t squeeze blood from a turnip…
