Self proclaimed Barner tradition...

I love when fans of teams claim a tradition and it includes the phrase "last 10 years, last 20, last 50 ..." If you have to put a time frame around it. Its not a tradition!

It's bad enough when fans do it, but the UThug administration actually creates press releases with the conveniently selected fact "Since legendary head coach Gen. Robert R. Neyland coached his first team at Tennessee in 1926, the Vols have won more games (618) than any other school in the country."

However, if you move the window to "since 1929" they lose the "most wins" status to Alabama and then later on to Oklahoma, Ohio State, Nebraska and a host of others as the time window narrows. In all-time wins, UThug is ranked 8th. That's nothing to sneeze at, but the UThug administration, as always, can't accept their legitimate place in college football. They have to sneak around and find some way to make themselves appear better than they are.

BTW... Alabama was tied(at the beginning of the season) with Ohio State for 5th in number of wins all-time. With our undefeated start this season and Ohio State's lackluster performance so far, we are now in 5th place and they have dropped to 6th. They are actually in danger of dropping another spot if they lose a few more games. Penn State is ranked 7th in all-time wins and now only one win behind them.

"9. A losing record to only 2 SEC powers..and with those two teams combined, we only trail by 10 games."

When you claim that one, you know you've got a lack of tradition. Tradition at Auburn is "just now passing Georgia Tech in SEC Championships." Tradition is also not even having a section about tradition and history on your website.

Tucker Fredrickson was a RB who played in the late 50s, early '60s, later with the new York Giants.

I think Zeke was a QB, maybe on the '57 team.

Rocker was a DT who played for Dye.

As to why they are considered "special" by AU fans, I don't have a clue.

Oh and I forgot according to that Sporting News Top-50 College Football Programs issue they are # 1 in Major NCAA Infractions! Go Tiger Eagles! :biggrin2:

I'm still waiting on someone to tell me who Tucker Freerickson, Zeke Smith and Tracy Rocker are, maybe I'm just stupid, but I have NEVER heard those names in my life not even once.

You know 'ol Zeke! He's that boy that use to bag groceries at the Piggly Wiggly before it turned into a thrift store. :p

Thats what I thought, Alabama has at least 100 better players that we would talk about as part of "great tradition" before we got far enough down the list to reach the likes of Zeke, and Tucker.

Exactly you could list the All Americans alone between now and 1957 and come up with more.
How about some of these names in that time frame. See if any of them ring a bell!

Neighbors, LR Jordan, Crane, Namath, Sloan, Dowdy, Johns, Perkins, Homan, Stabler, Musso, Hannah, Brown, Lowe, Cook, Croom, Newsome, Krauss, Lyons, Bunch, McNeal, Stephenson, Junior, Wilcox, Castille, Pitts, Bennett, Humphrey, D. Thomas, McCants, Doyle, Curry, Copeland, Langham, Copeland, Barker, Samuels, Alexander. (No I didnt list em all, dont have that much time)

Also Alabama has 15 players in the College Football Hall of Fame, and 3 coaches. Aubies have 7 players in the CFB HoF and 3 coaches.

In the Pro Football HoF Alabama ranks 4th behind ND, USC, and Mich with 6. Auburn has 1, and he has an asterik next to his name because he played for more than one college. :biggrin2:

...and in his profile, they don't even mention anything about his playing time at Auburn.

When you see the names from Bama, ANYONE that knows anything about the NFL will immediately recognize them:

Hutson: held almost all the receiving records in the NFL until Jerry Rice came along.

Starr: the man that led Lombardi's charge into legend. He was the MVP for Superbowls I and II.

Namath: if you don't know, you aren't worth the time

Hannah: possibly the best pro guard ever

Ozzie: "Wizard of Oz"... best tight end to ever play the game

Stephenson: great center for Don Shula's Dolphins.
