Question: Should OSU be in the playoffs?

IMO, they haven’t exactly looked like world beaters this year. I just don’t think they should be allowed to play half a season against crappy teams and still qualify for the playoffs. Half the games equal half the potential for injuries too. It’s just not right.

To summarize the Big 10 hurriedly put together a conference schedule to get become playoff eligible before it was too late. Then when the rules they put together to try to get into the playoffs seemed to hinder those efforts, they then changed the rules again to try to get into the playoffs.

They are without a doubt trying to game the system.

I would argue that if you ignore silly committee criteria, Ohio State probably belongs in the top 4. But, the Big 10 is just openly pandering to the committee and it's ridiculous. May be the SEC should adjust their rules on the fly every year to get more teams into the playoffs, do you realize how much that could mess other conferences up?

For example why doesn't the SEC just have Texas A&M and Florida play each other in the SECCG? Checkmate!
The main problem with Ohio St this year is what is constantly what is the problem with Alabama just about every year. And it is preseason rankings vs actual rankings. I don’t think many at the beginning of this would’ve even questioned Ohio St’s legitimacy if they went 5-0 or 6-0 at the beginning of this, but very few saw Michigan and PSU being this bad. Now numbers actually matter. One reason I have disagreed about the 2017 rankings with you is because anyone who watched the season probably came to the same conclusion of who the best 5 teams were going into the Iron Bowl and that Auburn would have to win 3 top 5 bouts in a month. The only issue I had was Wisconsin being #4.

But I really don’t think too many people can get too upset about the final CFP rankings because it’s COVID year and there are only a few teams worth a damn.

To me their offense looks top 4 but not the defense. Everyone keeps saying they’re going to be fresher but they’ll also have had less games to grow and gel. I would not like our chances with the defense at week 5-6 level of experience like I am after 9 games.
I also don’t think they should be punished because they have stupid leaders at their conference HQ. they wanted to try and play and had that chance stolen from them.
I’m fine with the B1G protecting their league now. We’ve had to embrace flexibility for 2020 and they have too. As long as Bama gets in I’m good :)

yawn. Without Wisconsin or Iowa there is very little interest in it. The Big 10 and ACC have the most imbalanced divisions in football
Indiana at 6-1, has played 7 games. Ohio State at 5-0, has played 5 games.

The rule states a team must play at least 6 games to qualify.

To leave Indiana out is criminal, at the very least!

Yeah, they are very disappointed but will be happy to get a share of the CFP money like always.

Wasn’t disagreeing. I was just saying Ohio St vs North Western for a championship is like Clemson vs Duke for one. It’s a boring matchup that really no one outside the two fan bases cares about unless Ohio St ends up crapping the bed. Had this been a good Wisconsin, Iowa, or Minnesota team then everyone would be excited to see it.

Honestly I wish Ohio St went rogue and scheduled Auburn, Cincy, or aTm that week instead.

The conference threatened Nebraska with huge fines when they tried to schedule a non conference opponent.
Edit: Conference, not league.. lol

Curious as to what criteria you're using to come to this conclusion.
Eyetest, purely eyetest and the fact that they are one of the few teams out there that recruit at an elite level every year like we do. Let's line it up good on good and see who comes out on top.

Okay, I was wondering if you had watched them. I've seen a bit of OSU and think they look underwhelming. The only team they've played with a winning record took them to the wire.

So you are sure that we would beat aTm and Florida? Because I am not. And I have serious doubts about beating Clemson and ND - no way in hell we are beating Alabama.

Yeah and that’s Nebraska. Y’all are Ohio St. Nebraska is just a bunch of self important corn for brains use to bes that couldn’t stomach Missouri getting an invitation to a party over them. Ohio St is an elite school that has a long history of being great and is consistently generating revenue for the Big 10. Telling Nebraska to get with the program or go back to kissing the burnt cow’s rear end is not in the same neighborhood of difficulty in pulling off as trying to discipline Ohio St for looking out for their championship hopes.

If Alabama needed an extra game the SEC would allow it just like the BIG 10 would for Ohio State. Nebraska is really the Big 10 version of South Carolina.

Frankly speaking, it is just such a weird year. OSU has NFL talent all over the field including a superstar QB. It is just my opinion but I think the Bucks are one of the top 4. Florida is about to get throttled like TAMU did earlier this year and things are going to look much different in a couple of weeks.

Well a good chunk of this board was totally convinced that Georgia was going to clown us. So thats about the accuracy of the eye test imo. But If I had to say, Bama may have totally separated themselves from everyone. I think Clemson and Ohio St are probably the two best teams besides them. ND i dont have a clue if they are better than Florida or aTm.

You know your team better than I do, but I won’t be sleeping on OSU if they make it in. Penn St is terrible, but what I saw in that game was an OSU team playing angry and united. A talented team that is motivated and with collective anger to spare is always a tough out for anyone.

There’s no doubt in my mind that IU is getting hosed. If the roles were reversed, the conference wouldn’t even think about changing the rules. OSU is getting blatant preferential treatment like we haven’t seen since probably the media’s treatment of Notre Dame from the 40’s-70’s. However OSU is also one of the few teams with a consistent multi-year track record to justify getting preferential treatment.

Part of the appeal to the playoffs is getting the best teams and the best players to compete. We don’t know if OSU has one of the top teams, but it’s impossible to argue they don’t have some of the top individual talent in the country. It sucks and it’s not fair, but what in 2020 hasn’t sucked or been unfair?

They may be one of the top teams in the land, but I guess we'll never know for sure since they don't have to do what all the other teams vying for those 4 spots do. Quite frankly, it really frosts me that the BiG just whimsically changes their own rules to benefit 1 school. Would that have done the same for, say, Illinois? The buckeyes don't deserve a spot.
