Question: Should OSU be in the playoffs?

My beef with this whole OSU deal is the fact that they will have played 4 fewer games than anyone else in the mix. That is a lot of opportunity for upsets and injury to impact a program that they would have avoided. The B1G should not be rewarded for lacking the courage to start the season early enough. Their whole entry into this season was more of an “oh crap, we’re going to be left out”.

My line of thinking here is similar to how I view Boise Stating your schedule. If you haven't really played anyone, or had enough challenges on your schedule to prove yourself that can kind of make it null and void. Winning one big game and then playing a few nobodies isn't enough to be a contender in my opinion. It's kind of a must be this tall to ride, must have faced enough real challenges to say you've proven yourself.

We know Ohio State passes the eye test, but this really erodes the quality win/total win arguments in the future. Why play anyone? Why have a difficult schedule at all? They're sitting at #4 having played one team with a pulse and only 5 total games. Of course Oklahoma is chirping about playing them, but they don't do it, they won't play A&M either. They're basically in the clubhouse at this point. Their conference has twice rearranged everything just to cater to the committee.

I'm sure Alabama would love to have cancelled that Tennessee game and have a healthy Waddle. Heck, I'm not sure why on earth Alabama should have to play Florida at this point. Let A&M and Florida play each other while Alabama gets a bye.

OSU has played one team that is decent and nearly blew a massive lead against them and hung on by their fingernails to win...the rest of their schedule is garbage.

OSU's current positioning is because of who they are (their historical reputation), not who they beat or the strength of their schedule this year.

yes, they have looked very good ripping apart inferior teams, and when they played one team with a pulse their all-world QB looked average and the team overall looked okay.

there is no rational basis to say from what we have seen so far that they are better than aTm or Florida...I'm not even sure they've shown they're better than Georgia.

the BIG's approach to this entire season has been a joke, and this effort to secure the league's marquee program a shot at the playoffs is pathetic.

and let's face it, if the SEC did something like this to ensure that one of our bluebloods would get a shot they didn't earn, the national media would crucify us as a win at all costs, throw the rules out for money league.

the entire BIG situation is a farce.

i know it won't happen, but i would love to see NW throttle the Buckeyes.

I love my Bama football, but I wish we weren't playing this weekend. The Arkansas game is of no consequence outside of player stats.

Especially if Ohio State is only going to play 6 games and make the playoff....why play this Arkansas game.

Covid is going to cause issues with the playoffs anyway.

Surely we could pull the LSU trick of a few weeks ago, claim "contract tracing" and not enough scholarship players so we have to cancel the game. I'm with you...meaningless games are not what we need at this stage.

I wish some people would stop saying this. We are not Ohio or ACC. They pulled this crap. We will do things the right way and finish our season.

Us not playing Arkansas will cost Mac Johns a Heisman. Our players will be little rusty. We were rusty against Kentucky and took a while for us to warm up. we can't do that against Florida. Saban and the team prefer to play this weekend to keep momentum going.

Good clip on Saban talking about Momentum: Saban shrugs off outside noise, says he has no internet - ESPN Video

Anyone want aww shucks opinion on this? No? Well Here ya go anyways.
He makes a fair argument for the most part. BUT, I think he is also pandering. He claims no matter what happens in the ACCCG ND AND Clempson belong in the top 4. Is he scared of losing to ND again? Because in his mind it seems that if that happens they still deserve a place in the top 4. Clown. That part of it lost me. #NeverDabo

1. He wants that double dose of CFP revenue for the ACC. Can’t blame him for posturing here. Someone’s got to pay his $9.3 million salary, after all.
2. He doesn’t want to face the Buckeyes again.

Edit: corrected salary figure

Dabo thinks that Clemson is the best team in the country, even after a loss - even after 2 losses. He is an egotistical jerk.

His Andy Griffith act is wearing thin on me. This ain't Mayberry where aww schucks works, and you ain't the sheriff Dabo. He is the top coach in the ACC, no doubt. But, would he fare as well in the SEC or the B1G? Idk. I just hope Bama doesn't give him the chance to see if he could!

I dislike him and his gimmick. And his true persona has been shining more and more lately. IMO he is a huckster and a fake. He's probably just butt hurt he actually has a team in the ACCCG this year that will actually challenge him so he can't use those practices to get extra preparation for the playoffs.

On another note. I did say he makes a good case in some spots. I only disagreed with him basically saying if they lose to ND, they should still be in. IF that happens, I am still torn on whether OSU should get in. Are they top 4? Possibly. Will there body of work thus far and a win against NW prove that? Not to me. ND wins Clempson is out. Period. But I am struggling to find justification in playing half of the schedule others have played allowing you in. Undefeated, OK. OSU had half of their possibilities to lose OR win canceled. I am not blaming OSU. It is certainly on the conference for the way they handled it from the start. On top of the catering to OSU by breaking their own rules for the sake of having a team in the playoff is slimy at best.
The eye-test is even a joke now. Everyone knows OSU is going to blow out NW. So then, whats the narrative? The talking heads stop even mentioning the rule changes by the B1G to get them into the conversation, and instead, focus on what a dominant win OSU had in their conference CG? 2020 is a weird year. But, OSU is just a product of poor planning by the B1G big wigs.

ETA: I have nothing against OSU. If they get in. That is fine by me. My grievances is with the B1G as a whole. They handled this poorly from the start then decided to change the rules THEY put in place to help the playoff chances for the conference.

I imagine every Sunday he gets a hair cut by Floyd the Barber and aww schucks his way through the whole barber shop talk and walks out with every Clempson fan thinking he walks on water and is the second coming of Jesus. Clempson is as weird as awbarn.

I don't like him as a person, but why wouldn't Clemson think highly of him? He's brought unparalleled success and all they have to do is just let him do his thing.

He's their Bobby Bowden (there are a lot of parallels there). I know if a basketball coach came along and brought a comparable level of success to basketball, I'd be willing to overlook a lot of idiosyncrasies.

I know he grates on folks here - but with the exception of his suggestion even two-loss Clemson makes the playoff he's not really wrong about any of it.

Of course, maybe he fears playing Ohio State again.

But he IS right (as I've said) that there should be an agreed upon standard. As I said earlier this week, my issue is NOT with Ohio State, my issue is with the Big Ten FIRST having rules, having no caveats, and then only changing the rules because the cash cow has a chance to bring home some more bacon.

And the CFP SHOULD have AT LEAST spelled out "any team with fewer than X games" will not be considered.

That - or modify it with a six-team playoff and force the lower win teams to play in.

I almost reflexively disagree with Dabo now. I hope Notre Dame wins that game and Clemson gets left out. I'd enjoy beating them but it might be even more enjoyable to see his reaction if they were to get left out.

Oh I agree. I said in a previous post I agree with everything he said EXCEPT for 2 loss clempson getting in. We are on the same page.

Ive held out hope for Dabo to win me over but it just isn’t happening. He is starting to look like a barn fan that played at Alabama instead of this great coach that is an Alabama alum. I never thought I would cheer for ND twice in one season but I guess 2020 is just that weird of a year.

I can't rightly disagree with this at all. I guess i Just have a certain amount of discontent for the guy. I think he is a con man and I ain't buying what he is selling when it comes to his persona.
But, I can't blame Clempson fans for admiring they guy. I do, however, think he is a phony. I stand by that while also standing by him being a darn good football coach. Just don't bring him here to coach.

Bobby Bowden is a better coach than Dabo. Dabo is more of a Tom Osborne. A good coach in a bad conference that got lucky when his main competitor tanked or went away. If we swapped Dabo with Jimbo at aTm then we are most likely talking about how great Jimbo is and how Dabo is overrated. Dabo is good but not near as good as some believe. Put him in more than a 2 game season and see how he performs.

If Dabo came here I would hate the fact that we hired him from the the day we did it to the day he left. I would enjoy the possible championships we could win, but I will hate every second of the cult like behavior he would instill here.
