ADMIN NOTE: Site updates / privacy policy & terms of service agreement [Monday 10/21/25 2pm CDT Update!]

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

main issues right now
1) reactions/emoji/like confirm and all reactions/emojis/likes not appearing (and the confirm afterward)
2) image upload not acting right
3) "fancy" apostrophes, quotes, and ellipses may show as weird characters. If you can make your browser / windows not use those, that will solve it. I may have a different solution later.

I just wanted to mention that any previous posts that have a contraction using an apostrophe are showing up as weird code.

Please don't suspend anyone for trying to use coded cursing.

I tried to edit any of mine that I saw but I'm seeing it in many other people's posts.

Yes - I was going to suggest that people edit their own posts but to also make sure your browser / system isn't using "fancy" quotes, apostrophes, ellipses, "em" double dashes, etc. This means you want an apostrophe / quote that is "vertical" instead of slanted or with dots on one end, etc.

No suspensions for this :D

KNOWN ISSUES that we'll get fixed ASAP
  • Likes button / reactions : Only "LIKE" is available and you get a confirm screen after clicking it.
    SEE SOLUTION BELOW
  • Weird characters: some posts have weird characters where apostrophes, quotes, ellipses, etc. are. You can/should edit your own post/thread if you see them to clean it up. New threads / posts should show the correct character.
  • Insert Image: the Insert Image button may not insert the image or the image may not show up when you post.
  • Go to page: may not work.
  • Unfurling: may not work correctly (this is when you post a URL and auto-formats it.

I would make a recommendation that only the Like and Thank You emojis are restored. I think the other emojis potentially invite emotional responses in the threads that just create more work for the moderators.

SOLUTION TO THE LIKE / CONFIRM ISSUE

The reaction / like issue isn't a totally a site issue. It is a really a browser permissions issue.

I use MS Edge as my browser but the same solution should work for all browsers :

Even though I had "allow javascript" enabled, for some reason it wasn't allowing it.

Solution: I went into my MS Edge browser settings:
menu: Privacy, search, and services>Site permissions>All permissions>JavaScript>Customized behaviors

and added tidefans.com and www.tidefans.com to the allow sites list.

I know there has to be a better site-side solution, but this is the only one every help note I've found says is what the solution is.

SO, if you want ALL the previous reactions/likes AND to eliminate the confirm Like screen, do this.

Edit: @Ledsteplin reports that turning the javascript off then back on worked, too.

I can't find this in my iPhone Safari settings.

10/22/2025 730am CDT UPDATE

Note that there may still be some strange happenings (like a thread not being there when you click the link) especially for some of the really old posts. However, the process I ran late last night in the background on all threads has fixed some of the weird things like the memes thread. I'll run another one tonight that will clean up some other stuff.

FIXED
1) See my post above about the "Like" issue. All of the options are there but you may need to make some adjustments in your browser to see them (and to eliminate the confirm screen). I'm looking for a different solution but all roads so far lead to this.

2) Meme thread (and others that had similar errors) fixed

I can't find this in my iPhone Safari settings.

On most phones / browsers, JavaScript is enabled by default. It used extensively on responsive websites and disabling it severely limits user experience.

Checking / enabling JavaScript on your iPhone / Safari (and other similar phones / browsers)
  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Click on Apps (at bottom of settings page)
  3. Scroll down and click on Safari.
  4. Scroll to the very bottom of the Safari settings page and tap Advanced.
  5. Find the JavaScript switch and slide it to the right to turn it on (the switch will appear green).
  6. Refresh the TideFans page
Once you've done this you should be able to long-click/press on the LIKE to see all the options.

on a computer here are instructions on how to do it on various browsers. Even though my browser allowed javascript, I specifically added tidefans.com and www.tidefans.com in the "allow javascript on these sites" section of the browser settings.

Users who have installed blockers of various sorts will have to check those apps and figure out what they need to do.

I had Javascript on. Turned it off, then back on. No longer see the "confirm" button.
