Question: so when is the appropriate time to panic if you are a Braves fan

Let us not forget the all import “exit velocity”. Can’t talk baseball with talking “exit velocity”.

Baseball was already on a decline in terms of fan interest. This “new” all or nothing approach is killing any possibility of reviving that interest. Kids come to watch players “hit”, not make a left turn towards the dugout. Even if players are bunting or advancing the runner from second to third by hitting the ball to right, it is still “action”.

It also feels like players today don't take the game serious enough.

I kind of miss little things like when a Hitter hit a HR off a Pitcher and showed him up with a Bat-flip and taunting gestures then the next AB he got Plunked and then we had a little skirmish at the mound.

Now I see things like the Rookie Pitt pitcher giving up a Homer to Ohtani and turning around and watching it leave the park with a smile.

It's hard for me to explain but it almost feels like Regular games are played like an All-Star game where guys are just out there having fun more than fiercely competing.

Even as recent as the 80s-90s players on opposing teams and especially rivals seemed to almost hate each other and now everyone acts like best buddies.

I just don't like it.

I think this is where the expanded playoffs has hurt. The margin for error now has greatly increased terms of “getting in”. It’s about getting into the playoffs, not dominating your division rivals and “rubbing their nose” in a division title.

Pre-season I made many post about how disappointed I was that I was not going to be able to "legally" watch the Braves this season because I no longer have access to Bally. I even searched the webs and found some shady sites to watch the games on my iPad. I'm not missing it much and haven't even used those "not so legal" sites in a few weeks now.

I'll use the 680 the Fan app to check in on the radio broadcast here and there but if the Braves are down by 3 or more, I shut that off.

I'll say this..

If the Braves somehow make the Playoffs and it's because of Ozuna's Hitting then he should win the MVP over Ohtani.

Ozuna's back has to be Killing him.

I just took a quick look at MLB's stats leaders page for 1979-1989 and there were only 3 seasons where there were less than 25-30 Guys who ended the year .300 or over.

It's been talked about a few times in various threads but both the Art of Hitting and the Art of Pitching are all but extinct now.

Baseball has been around a long time now but for Modern Baseball it's never been worse than the last 10-15 years or so.

Greg Maddux could easily average 30 wins in this era of hitters.

If the Braves could hit then maybe but right now he'd have a bunch of ND's and L's that wouldn't be his fault.

But Prime Greg Maddux would absolutely have a sub 1.50 era vs these guys who constantly swing for the fence.

I mean he had era's near 1.50 - 2.20 vs the Roided players in the mid-late 90's.

I'd love to see today's hitters have to face a real 'Pitcher' like Maddux who changed speeds and location with insane movement.

They'd come out of their Cleats flailing away.

A handful of us have been saying for years that Snit is not a good manager but others were like "what are you talking about, he won a WS ring. Well, this season should open more eyes. The teams has been winning in recent years in spite of him. Now we have a manager that doesn't have a clue what to do or how to motivate or push for a little extra from his clubhouse. That should have been evident with lackluster approach in the last 2 post seasons but, maybe now more will see, we have a joke of a manager. We lost the best coach on staff (and it shows!), who should have gotten the manager's spot over Snit back in 2016.

About 15 years ago my son was attending a showcase camp primarily attended by coaches and scouts for small school/community colleges. My son was a pitcher/middle infielder in high school. He was 5’10 and 175 lbs at the time. His FB was mid 80’s but he had a good change and a very good “12 to 6” curve ball. But his biggest asset was location. He stayed out of the middle of the plate.

My son pitched 3 innings in a simulated game. He gave up 2 hits, walked one and K’d two with one earned run. Didn’t even turn any heads (with the exception of one community college assistant working the camp). A kid from Texas goes to the mound right afterwards. He’s probably 6’2” and 195 lbs and busting the gun at 91-92. Every coach frothing at the mouth. Kid struggled with location and has only an average change up. In two innings, that kid had that 90+ mph fastball deposited over the left field fence 4 TIMES! But every coach there could not wait to talk to him.
Everyone of these coaches thinking to themselves “he’s got the physical tools. I can get a couple more clicks in velocity out him, teach him an off speed pitch or two and I’ve got a gem”. But there is more to pitching than just that.
But sadly it is all about overpowering the hitter. Throwing…not pitching.

Well we actually Won and scored 6 runs and didn't hit a single HR.

Ozuna is Top 3-4 now in the NL in BA and OBP and is 1st in SLG and OPS.

Lopez had another great outing.

Snitker is a horrible in game manager but a good clubhouse guy. The Braves season will be determined by how well they do at the Trade Deadline because relying on Chris Sale is playing with fire.
