Some Context (regarding coach DeBoer’s start)

Kirby Smart was 8-5 in his first season at UGA in 2016, with losses to Vanderbilt and Tennessee at home. The team he inherited had loads of talent and finished the previous season 10-3.

Steve Sarkisian was 5-7 in his first season at Texas in 2021, and got drilled by the likes of Arkansas and Iowa State. The team he inherited had loads of talent and finished the previous (COVID-shortened) season 7-3 and ranked #19.

Seven games in to each of those respective seasons, both coaches were 4-3 and I’m sure the fan bases were about to lose their minds.

I don’t like to lose and we’ve been extraordinarily spoiled over the last 16 years. The discipline issue are bothersome but this is not a dynamic that is unique to Alabama in 2024.

Transitions are really tough. I had this team at 9-3 prior to the season and I still think that’s about right. Honestly that would be a great success considering how the average transition season pans out for most coaches.

Give it time, folks. We can be frustrated with the penalties, the QB play, the discipline issues, etc but DeBoer will be given multiple seasons to see things out and by all accounts he’s still well-equipped to succeed.

TBF, neither of those teams were coming off of a CFP appearance, so the fans were a bit more reasonable.

But I agree that the point is that CKD needs to have time to get HIS players into place.

Here's some more context. Here are the teams with the highest blue chip ratings this year:
Ohio State: 90%
Alabama: 88%
Georgia: 80%
Texas A&M: 79%
Oregon: 76%

DeBoer didn't have to rebuild anything like coaches usually need to in their first year. This was a playoff team last year and they are loaded with talent this year. This doesn't mean it is an easy job, but it's not too much to expect a win over Vanderbilt.

Cancer tends to be a problem no matter what the talent level. In fact it probably contributes to it...

That's fair, but I remember everyone saying making the playoffs with that team was the best coaching job of Saban's career, and that we had no business sniffing the playoffs with that team. . That team was more talented than this one. Honestly, 9-3 would be a heck of a coaching job, given the things we're beginning to learn about this team

When I see wide open receivers running open and we go three and out or throw a pick, I'm not inclined to blame the OC. It drives OC's nuts when players don't execute plays that literally have multiple WR's wide the crap open and the QB keeps "not seeing" them. Remember the in game shot of Tommy Rees with his face in his hands in utter frustration? My guess is that is Nick Sheridian with JM.
Then why are we STILL playing him when it’s obvious he isn’t a real QB?

Im not sure I ever remember Alabama being ranked 112th in the Nation rushing the ball..I can't wrap my head around that..

Alabama Crimson Tide
8th SEC FBS | 5-2
Passing Yards
53rd
259.7 PYPG
Rushing Yards
112th
164.3 RYPG
Total Yards Per Game
64th
424.0 YPG

Don’t go looking at defensive stats because you won’t feel any better.

Seems to me they're just intent on not throwing the players under the bus to the media. I respect the heck out of that. I don't think it's anything to read too much into
Which is probably the reason CNS limited the media’s access to assistance coaches. CKD might be well served to do the same.

I feel bad in retrospect for being so critical of Rees.

He tried to make some adjustments around the Tenn game last year and they worked for about 3 weeks and teams shut us down again with the exception of UGA who played a flawed scheme.

But what Sheridan has been doing looks a lot like what Rees was doing because JM regresses under pressure and when teams take away what he does best.

We are running different route trees that have been getting WRs and TEs open all over the field and it hasn’t mattered.

We don’t have an OC problem other than maybe picking bad times to try trick plays.

Yep. Which for the most part is having his “head in hands” and a look of bewilderment…very much like Rees last year.

That's what I was getting at. Whenever Ty does get a shot, I think people are gonna find out that a lot of these issues have been QB issues. I bet the backs magically start getting carries too
You are much more optimistic than I. Short of a JM injury, I expect Ty only sees the field in mop up duty. My gut tells me CKD, as it relates to QB, is going to “dance with what brung him”. That being Milroe. Which then I’m afraid puts Ty in play in the portal after season.

I hope I’m wrong, on both accounts.

Time to platoon Ty and Milroe... go with the hot hand.

I hope Simpson is on board with being the #1 next year. We need someone with basic skills out there.

The level of competition in the SEC is correct, but losing to Vanderbilt? Let's face it they are not world beaters.

The HC needs to be the one sending the tone and message to the media. I've said enough about this topic but having your "minions" rant about how great things are right now doesn't do a lot for me...
