This one has all the makings of being a big one, Ivan, Frederick, Camille, Andrew... take your pick. Still a ways out, but the models are not looking good for ANYONE in the SE.

The rotation and buzzsaw effect he is showing is very reminiscent of strong storms in the past. Friends, watch this one, and with any luck Dennis will become a fish and not a 'cane.

Fish seems most unlikely based on the current projections.

I do expect a more easterly movement (sorry Florida) but the ridge and remnants of Cindy could push Dennis the Menace back to Florida.

Failing that, then LA/MS are looking at another dead on hit, but this one from a bruiser.

Having nice 50mph gusts right now thanks to Tropical Storm Cindy in west Mobile! It's not even July 15th, and I've already had ENOUGH of this hurricane season. :eek2:

Sun's now trying to come out here in Mobile -- and appears the storm has pulled most of the humidity out with it, so nice and breezy!

Cindy put a quick 5" or so in our garage (house sits on top of the garage) yesterday, but it all receded in a few hours. Unfortunately, since we're in the moving-in process, we lost a few boxes of old books we hadn't yet gotten put away. Oh well.

Today we're spending cleaning out Cindy's remnants and preparing for Dennis. Hubby and I got married on the Outer Banks of NC during the previous Dennis in 1999 (that was the one that pushed through the coast of NC, then returned the next day...during our wedding!). Looks like this Dennis will be paying us a visit as well. It's all in the waiting now....

Good luck to everyone in the path of this thing.

I had some screen panels from our patio screen that were ripped apart by Frances and the other one last summer. I still haven't fixed them. I guess it's a good thing since this season is looking to become very lively.

The Gulf Coast looks to be in the bull's eye of Dennis.

The C-L is taking it in stride, though. They have barely mentioned the storm (at least in the online edition).

I guess Miss./Ala./Fla. gulf areas are pretty much used to there being hurricanes lurking out there. We were so lackadaisical with Opal that I didn't even know we were in any danger until I got a phone call warning that the schools were being shut down.

We transplants in Texas are praying for you all. When the weather channel refered to this storm as "lumbering" accross the gulf, I shuddered.

On a historical note, this is the earliest in the Atlantic hurricane season that the "D" named storm has been reached. In no other season, back through the time in which records have been kept, have there been four named storms by this early date.

Lord help us by the time we hit our normal season (Sept./Oct) here on the Gulf Coast.

A couple of the computer models have not been updated since yesterday morning. Expect the forecast track to shift eastward.

VJ and Florida Tidefans - hope you've filled up the gas tank on your car.

Mine too

Well, looks like my in-laws will be back at the house fairly soon.

Well, we know the hurricane season is in full force when the in-laws are here through the little ones and the big ones. But, I'm thankful they do have a place to come and be safe (we cut down all 33 pine trees after Fredrick and replaced with a huge assortment of Japanese maple trees).
