Re: South End Zone Expansion

I called the ticket office the other day about 2008 tickets and I asked about the SEZ. I was told it is "a few years away". So, who knows!
Holy cow! You asked a ticket office staffer about tickets for next season AND threw in the curveball about the endzone expansion? I'll bet that person passed out shortly after from an anxiety attack and then resigned shortly thereafter citing on-the-job stress.:pDT_shar:

At our alumni event last week, Mal Moore did mention that the expansion planning has begun. He didn't elaborate and nobody (including me) asked for details. So, it's officially being worked on now and would most likely be completed in time for 2009 season.

Re: South Endzone Expansion update!!

When I was B'ham the day before the UT game, I ran into a local "big wig" who was at the hotel picking up a special guest. My father-in-law (as of this upcoming may...gettin' hitched) knew the guy, and he told us that the stadium was going up to 105,000.

Re: South End Zone Expansion

done deal, the cemetery issue has apparently been resolved($).
Cemetary issue? How can the cemetary be an issue when Bryant Drive isn't even an issue? If Bryant Drive isn't an issue, then certainly there is no issue with the cemetary because the Cemetary is across Bryand Drive from the Stadium. A more appropriate comment might well have been "the Bryand Drive issue has apparently been resolved.

There are plans which have been drawn up and exhibited at meetings between UA and TDOT. Whether these plans are final or preliminary, I can't say; however, in their present form, the southern most point of the expansion lies a mere eleven feet from the North curb of Bryant Drive.

Are the concession stands the same throughout BDS? I have seats up in U4 and was just wondering. We are cut off from the rest of BDS. It's like we are on an island high in the sky!

I just tried explaining Newcastle to the local gas station. The register worker had no clue. JEEZ....

O Mellow Mushroom on Old Shell and University has Newcastle on tap if you are ever in LA.

Re: South End Zone Expansion

Whats the big deal? The west side hangs over Wallace Wade Blvd.
There is no big deal. People seem to think that the stadium is closer to Bryant drive than it actually is. They also think that the support structure for an expansion takes up more space than it actually does...

They are not the same throughout BDS. They're all run by the same contractor, but they're quite different (based primarily on when each section was built). Most of them (except those in the NEZ) are not efficient. And FYI, you're not cut off from the rest of BDS...you're only cut off from the bowl. You can get to the NEZ, East Upper Deck, and West Upper Deck as long as you can get on a spiral.

I know about the stairs that connect the west upper deck to the lower deck. But, how can one get into the east upper deck and the north upper deck?

Thanks. That was exactly my point. The cemetary is not an issue because Bryant Drive, which is encountered before the cemetary, is not an issue. I didn't mention anything about the deck overhanging Bryant Drive. I was talking walls, supports...you know...superstructure. The ground level part of the structure for the South Endzone upper deck will stop only eleven feet short of the north edge of Bryant drive. No big deal. Just not a great deal of pedestrian space between the structure and the street.

The stairs on the west side are the only place that I know that you can go "freely" between the upper and lower decks. Once you get in any upper deck, you can access the others now with the north deck in place.

The issue with the cemetary is DURING construction, not after. As you can see from this photo, it required a very large area for the construction materials.

I would love to see a retractable roof if they are going to enclose the south endzone. I am being serious. Get rid of those overhangs on the east and west decks and just enclose BDS. The roof would remain closed during those hot afternoon games and open for night games, unless it rains. Just a thought.
