Question: Since the Southeastern Conference (SEC) signed a contract deal in August 2008 between ESPN and CBS for the exclusive rights for them to broadcast SEC games (which will basically pay each SEC University roughly $17 million a year for the next 15 years) will this eliminate the Payper view games altogether and allow either of the two to pick up the games which would more than likely be Payper view games? For example, the Alabama Vs. Florida International & North Texas type games. Just curious...cause I hate Payper view!

I doubt it, Alabama is still not at the level where the are willing to show every game.
Even ND with their deal with NBC are not on the air every week.
I expect we will still have the cupcakes on pay per view.

With the new contracts, every game that the SEC has broadcast rights to will be televised. CBS will show their top game every week except for the first two weeks. ESPN will show every other game on its various outlets. Those will include ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN Regional, ESPN Classic, ESPN360, ESPN GamePlan, and wherever else they can find if needed.
Each school will have the option of electing to do a PPV broadcast once per season.

Being on TV every week is not about popularity, but about broadcast rights. ND is not on NBC every week because NBC only has broadcast rights to ND home games.
Will this mean that I will be able to watch most of the games on ESPN gameplan that will be on ESPNU?
Here is a pretty interesting article on the other conferences (ACC in this case) being very concerned over the SEC TV package that we are about to start. It is from the Clemson rivals site that someone had posted over on scout.

Probably not. The ESPN Regional games will be on GamePlan, but I doubt the ESPNU games will be. ESPN wants to use this as leverage to get cable companies to carry ESPNU. In fact, Comcast just announced that they will be adding ESPNU by the beginning of football season.
Will it be cheaper then to order ESPN Gameplan instead of ordering each PPV game separately?

If you are in Alabama, GamePlan will do you no good for Alabama games. Your only option would be to order PPV. But, we will only have one PPV game at most.
That is interesting indeed. I never really considered the potential impact on the ACC but that makes perfect sense.
I've had the gameplan for severals years now. They bill you over a period of months so it not a big issue. I've seen all bama games and you also get some good games included in the package. To me it's worth it. RTR
Can you provide a link to the comcast announcement? Also if by for some reason they dont carry espnu by football season, will espn carry espnu games over net, espn360?
IMO, one of the other ramifications of the SEC's mammoth deal is that the SEC bottom-feeders will be able to more easily compete with the upper-crust because the advantage they have will be diluted by the socialization of the massive TV money.
Of course, with an economy that IMO will never fully recover, meaning a significant reduction in the standard-of-living in the US, who knows what any of this means. Will a much greater % of this TV money go to the general fund ? Will hyperinflation reduce this amount to a pittance ? etc.
But for any who read the ACC perspective, it is easy to understand their distress.

I highly doubt that the ESPNU games will be on ESPN360. But on a related note, ESPN360 will be available to Comcast internet subscribers.

I am glad I got the espn gameplan. I was looking at the tv linup last night and they had the SEC teams on the gameplan channels, we have Cablevison up here. I saw the Tennessee game on and it had it as the SEC TV Game of the week

I just hope we never end up with Pam Ward calling a game. I don't have a problem with a woman calling a game in general. I do with one that is trying to sound like a man and is incompetent to boot.
She's on ESPN2 right now, so I am staying away from that game.
