I seem to recall that at either a game or scrimmage that TS and all the other QBs other than Nilroe were throwing really long passes toward a garbage can in the corner of the end zone and TS dropped a few right in. maybe it's that he's got a 50-60 yard arm instead of a 70 yard arm, but from what I've seen it's enough to be able to stretch a defense if they try to cheat up and not play the deep ball.
For sure and I think he does have a better Deep Ball than what has been shown in mop up time.

I've seen him absolutely run for his life in HS and complete an off balance throw down the field in that 50-60 yard range.

I just hope that the fans who aren't sold on him have some patience because I do expect him to go through some early growing pains because he's not been in this position to run the full offense before.

That play last year where he scrambled around and threw into double/triple coverage for an almost TD that completed at the 1 yard line... He'll do it again.

He'll have to learn when he can and can't take certain risks.

If it's man coverage or a bust and he trusts his WR to make a play then sure go ahead and run like Manziel and Air it out....but if it's 2-3 guys out there in coverage then check down or get what you can with your legs and get down or out of bounds.

I think he'll be REALLY Good by mid-season though.

Here's the million dollar question......Can Ty Simpson hit the hot receiver on a blitz?

I guess with how much money these kids are making now it should be the 2 million dollar question.
I think he can and will.

He's already shown that he can make checks at the LOS and get things set up before taking the snap.

There was also that play that comes to mind where he took immediate pressure up the middle after the snap and then rolled to the right and hit the TE up the seam.

That wasn't a hot route but it showed he doesn't panic and knows where to go when in trouble.

It's a small sample but from what I have seen TS has significantly lower time from snap to ready to throw motion, so he should be at least prepared to pull the trigger much, much faster than what we saw in 23 and 24.

I'd be more happy to see him hit a 7 yard slant to Horton in stride and let him get the rest of the 63 yards really.

His deep ball was bad. But small sample size and people often improve.
The sample size is really low for deep balls. I don't recall him throwing any deep balls at all in a game. He may have, and I just don't remember. Practice may be different. I'm curious if he's thrown any deep in practice this year. And how it looked. Austin may have the better deep ball. He has a strong arm, along with some accuracy.

Well we know he hands the ball off to a runningback like a champ.

I'm not sure why anyone is worried about Ty and his deep throws. The kid is more accurate and on time with throws.....should dice defenses up.

He'll be fine hitting a few deep to keep teams honest.
I think he'll be fine. I do think we may see an early season "struggle" by him simply due to never being in a game when it mattered (outside of the South Fl game). He's never been given the ball as a starter and that lack of game experience may show some early on. But overall, I think he'll be fine.

That South Florida game was valuable experience for the young man.

TS's deep ball?

1. There wasn't time (to drop back and throw it) in his only start at South Florida.
2. And when he got mop up duty in other games, he got in a few passes, but that's not the occasion to let him throw deep, anyway.
3. And even if that's not his strong suit (and who really knows?), we know he can hit the short and intermediate passes because we've seen him do it with good timing and accuracy.

JMO, but I'm not worried about it!

It is usually a good sign when a QB comes from a High School background where they actually led their team to a State Championship. We tend to forget that when looking at a player's overall development. Ty probably didn't peak in high school so there should be a pretty high ceiling for him at this point. It says a lot that he's bid his time waiting for his opportunity and he is taking advantage of it now when all the noise around the program has apparently settled down a little bit.

Im not worried about it.... just stating that it is really an unknown. I am rooting for whoever the starter is to be successful.

I think the "concern" is the accuracy of the deep balls, not whether he has the arm strength. But even still, I think he'll be fine. The more reps he gets with the 1's wrs the better the deep ball gets.
In a lot of ways, the WR is a big factor in the QB's "accuracy" on deep balls. I am confident that RW and GB can go get it if TS throws it to an open spot on the field, deep enough to elicit single coverage.
