Statement by Saban: "if you don’t do things fundamentally correct...consequences"

"Whatever it is, on any part of the team, that every guy on the team should learn the lesson that if you don’t do things fundamentally correct, there’s going to be a consequence.

Do y'all think some of the normal starters may not start this week? I hate to say it but I get the feeling Lacy may be the first back in the game. This may be a plan to light a fire under Trent.

Also we all know that the OL will be changed around and I expect to see Cryrus start this week.

Any D changes? thoughts?

Re: From this Statement by Saban

I don't think Trent needs a fire lit under him. He had nowhere to run last Saturday.

I think what Coach Saban was saying is, when you don't do something right, the consequence is a bad play. Lost yardage, turnover, blown coverage, etc.

Re: From this Statement by Saban

Your starting to sound like one of the media guys :) I wouldn't read to much into it other than CNS was not happy with the performance of several people and to put it in CNS words thats a bunch of BS if you whiff on a guy you are supposed to be blocking what difference does it make where you were playing you flat out missed your assignment. :)

Re: From this Statement by Saban

I think we will see our players doing a lot better this week (even though I didn't think we played badly. Just the turnovers.).

Re: From this Statement by Saban

If I'm guessing he's mainly talking to the offensive line. We've got a championship caliber defense, championship caliber running backs, well above average wr's, well above average special teams and yet our OL rolls out a performance like it did Saturday against Kent St. Not good.

We're dead in the water if the OL doesn't drastically improve and begin to gel before we get into the meat of our SEC schedule. I understand we experimented a lot Saturday with OL combinations. We need to get it right in the next two weeks.

I just look at last week as we played down to our competition. Had we played Oregon, we would have had similar results as LSwho due to a high level of competition. We have a darn good team and Saban expects them to play that way. (which i agree)

Sabans point, bottom line is to compete 365 days a year and he doesn't give a poop who it is. (a brief summation of Saban quotes).

It will never be admitted publicly or used as an excuse, but I believe Trent is still nursing the hammy.

If you listen to his press conference he seemed irritated that guys weren't doing things fundamentally correct all over the field. It almost seemed like he was upset that maybe some players felt like that just because it was Kent State they could get away with short cuts or something. He said something along the lines of, "Don't tell me what you thought you could do, tell me what your assignment was.". That to me sounds to me like they were getting a bunch of those, "I thought I could beat that guy" or "I thought I could block him without getting so low" kind of excuses. CNS doesn't want to hear that kind of stuff. If you're supposed to run a 7 yard out, you had better run a 7 yard out and not 6.

As been said before, the OL problems were just because of missed/forgotten assignments. Easily correctable and there are several guys capable of making the correct assignments look easy.

And don't overlook the defense. Their lone TD was because of a missed assignment.
