Re: Suh, Gerhart and the Heisman (stiffarmtrophy.com at 3PM CDT has Ingram 2nd)

I am really hoping that the votes from the South are some of the last to come in.. Gerhart is not the complete back that Ingram is and Suh is incredible but not worthy of a Heisman. If either of the two had their teams in the top 10 it might would mean more to me. I want get my hopes up because this trophy is big time biased. We will see what happens..

It seems like everyone on other message boards (Rivals, ESPN) are rooting for Gerhart, but I'm confident he won't get it. It will either be McCoy or Ingram, and, as has been mentioned, Gerhart and Suh may be able to take enough votes away from McCoy to get Ingram a shot. The voting system is whack anyway, regional voters are always going to vote for their own region. It should be chosen by a committee of experts.

Re: Suh, Gerhart and the Heisman (stiffarmtrophy.com at 3PM CDT has Ingram 2nd)

This thread has the feel of a November election night.

In my humble opinion, Suh is the best player in college football. I've watched the guy play this year and been blown away. If he gets the Heisman, I'll be tipping my hat to him.

Mark Ingram is the most outstanding(I didn't say best) player on the best team in the country. Based on the way this award has been given out in the past, no one could argue if he gets the statue. MI is also, the best running back in the country, running against the stoutest defenses in the country. If Gerhardt gets the award, I'll consider it a miscarriage of justice.

With all that being said, I don't really put that much stock in the Heisman anyway.

If McClain had sacked Tebow 4.5 times in the SECCG, he would be getting votes, too...
If a defensive player is getting Heisman consideration and a Bama player is getting Heisman consideration, then the best player on Bama's team should get consideration.

Suh deserves it. He has been, by far, the best defensive player in college football this season. The performance against Texas was un-be-lievable. He almost single-handedly won that game for them from the defensive tackle position. He's been dominant all year.

Re: Suh, Gerhart and the Heisman (stiffarmtrophy.com at 3PM CDT has Ingram 2nd)

If the ESPN poll taken tonight is any indication (which I know it's not) then Ingram should win in a very close vote. The break was literally a regional vote. Gerhart had the west coast and West Virginia (huh?). McCoy only had Texas. Suh basically had the Big XII North votes. Mark Ingram had the south (including Florida :) ), east, and part of the North, Tebow had no states. Ingram lead with 28% of the vote.

Again I know this isn't "official", but it is an indication of who the fans think should win the Heisman.

I think if Woodson's performance was Heisman worthy the year he won it, then so is Suh's this season. Having said that, I really hope Mark wins.

I agree. I want Mark to win it, but Suh would be deserving if he won.

I just don't get all the Gerhart hype. I keep hearing his name, but no strong case for why he should win.

Re: Suh, Gerhart and the Heisman (stiffarmtrophy.com at 3PM CDT has Ingram 2nd)

Suh played incredible against Texas. But looking at his stats he had no sacks against Oklahoma and one half of a sack against Va. Tech, the only other ranked teams they played. So the one great game on national TV prime time doesn't qualify his to pass players who have performed at a high level all season.

Re: Ingram, Suh, Gerhart and the Heisman (stiffarmtrophy.com at 6AM CDT has Ingram 1s

I think that Gerhart, Suh or Ingram are the deserving candidates if the criteria is "greatest player" for this season.

It's difficult to compare Gerhart and Ingram because Gerhart is the more primary featured back on his team whereas Ingram is sharing time with Richardson throughout the game and Upchurch in tactical situations. Gerhart is going to have more TDs because he is a bruiser back that will always get carries in goal line situations. He's also done well on red zone opportunities.

The playcalling is producing higher game totals and season totals for Gerhart, not his own actions. His yards per carry are lower than Ingram. I'm not sure about the yards after contact numbers comparison between the two backs, but certainly Ingram has the better numbers per carry. So, Ingram is performing better in his limited opportunities while Gerhart is being relied upon more over the game and given more opportunities. Both seem to play very good in big games.

Suh is just a beast. He's definitely deserving, but the cards are stacked against him because of the position he plays.

he led his team in tackles....for the whole year. And he's a DT!! Do you realize how hard that is for a DT?

He leads the NCAA in rushing yards and points scored, so that makes him relevant. I didn't watch much of Stanford this year, but apparently he was their offensive star.

I think the numbers are looking pretty good for Ingram as of now. As stated, there will be lots of regional voting this year, but I think Ingram has made the biggest statement of the 3, and I expect the voters who don't lean toward one of the candidates based on region to vote for Mark. At least I hope so.

Ingram is in the lead and the following 4 voters are not on StiffArms' list of ballets received. We know all 4 of these will have Ingram in the top 2 and most will have him #1 from what they have been saying on ESPN over the weekend.
