Congrats CB4

I'm the same here for the most part. I ventured over one day to the NS board and will never go back.

I'm here because I love the interactions with everyone, the conversations, the debates....I can't get that anywhere else. And game threads...I've got friends to watch the game with on here....at least it feels that way.

Congratulations on your retirement! I retired a bit over 5 years ago and have enjoyed every second of it.

I miss some (a few) of the people I used to work with. I don't miss the large corporate politics, the agendas, the red tape, the people working to look good rather than be good, the bad incentive plans that led to behavior not in the best interest of the shareholders, etc., etc., etc.

The single best little thing about retirement is no alarm clock. We set an alarm on only those mornings that we have to leave early for a flight -- usually to someplace we have been looking forward to.

The best big thing is that you can spend time doing what you want to do.

My suggestion would be to do nothing for 3 - 6 months. Then something you like to do that forces intellectual engagement and gets you out from in front of the TV. For me, it's wine. I work 10 hours a week in a really nice wine shop and teach classes that attempt to de-mystify and de-snobbify wine.

For you, it might be golf, fishing, painting, gardening, cooking, whatever. It really doesn't matter much what the activity is, so long as there is one and you like to do it.

Enjoy the time.....you've earned it!
Thank you so much. My second heart attack a few months back moved me to “pull the trigger”. I have some follow up testing next week and we will go from there. My wife also has some health concerns, plus we have had the added stress of taking care of her parents (both with dementia and living with us since Covid). It was just time. October will be “my month” to begin to figure out how to write the final chapters of my book of life.

Back to the topic, THIS is why arguing and attacking each others on a message is so darn dumb. Life IS short. Sure there are things people post from time to time I don’t agree with necessarily. But I don’t have TIME to attempt to prove them wrong or “go at them personally”. And if that is how you get your “jollies”, you may just want to stretch out on the couch and have the psychiatrist pull out the Rorschach Ink Blot test for you.

Equally unfortunately, I agree with everything you said here, Slowpoke.

Here, though, that doesn't matter. Outside of my own personal interactions and as it relates to my duties as a moderator on TideFans, I don't much care about the general public's level of discourse.

People can comport themselves elsewhere as they wish.

On TideFans, and so long as BamaNation allows me a say in the matter, we will not be in the business of condoning personal attacks as a response to simple differences in perspective.
I agree 100%.
I cut out the alcohol . If someone attacks you, don't be a Dummy and respond to them. IT TAKES TWO TO ARGUE.

Keeping receipts is pointless and juvenile. You'll be cashed out on TF for doing it. I don't even agree with myself on an hourly basis so I certainly don't keep any.

I don't mind so much folks getting down or posting negativity - if warranted - on the game threads. I do mind folks bickering about positivity or negativity and incessantly arguing over points that are unsolvable. Game threads offer some collective catharsis, but those who are right and know it and want everyone to know it are best to take that elsewhere (as are those who want to argue with those who know it all).

Consider the NS board as the rest of the site's release valve for those who like to partake of non-sports discussions that give me indigestion. Occasionally we have an overflow from the bottom floor to the top and just have to fix the plumbing.

That is probably true. It's not a justification for personal attacks.

Similar logical processes on a far more serious level: "Judge, I'm really sorry her jaw got in the way of my fist. But somebody overserved me, and she made me mad....that makes it all good, right? Cut a brother some slack....please?!?"
Oh, I definitely agree! No good reason to attack someone. I was just trying to figure out why somebody did that on a message board for people who are all on the same side. That's odd to me.

Oh yes, especially on the subject of our current QB.
I don't know the circumstances but I really hope it wasn't over that.

Fortunately I was able to figure out how to keep my game threads clear of that, since following those threads as I have every season for 20 years was becoming a drag, with the same posters saying the same things about the same player incessantly.

Just hit "Ignore." It's easy, it's satisfying, and it doesn't earn you a ban from a place you enjoy visiting. (y)

Thank you to all of the mods for what you do to keep this the best board out there. I know you don't need the sunshine pumping, but it is certainly noticed and appreciated by those of us that have been here a long time...
I pump some sunshine and proud of it. I mean really, we are the luckiest fanbase in the world. We are Tidefans man so no matter how bad things get...we will always be the best and the envy of the college football world.
