I am surprised. Beef up security and clear the stadium for threats, but postponing the game is what terrorism is about - using violence to instill fear and disrupt lives.
i am not surprised. I told my wife this morning it would be postponed or canceled. It was all they could do to avoid the media blitz of mean spirted and insensitive.

I think cancelling would be a bad choice and don't know if they've ever developed a plan for such a thing but there have to be many who feel like doing it right now.
They almost cancelled the playoffs in 2021 because of whatever Covid variant was circulating at the time. So I'm not surprised

Sounds like they're taking a day to search the premises of the SuperDome and make sure there aren't IEDs or something. There were some found in the French Quarter.
They have to determine with certainty whether this was the prototypical lone nut or if this was a sort of sign of something coming that is worse.

I get both sentiments, I really do. But I try to always remember the words of baseball commissioner Fay Vincent when he canceled game three of the 1989 World Series due to an earthquake and referred it as “our modest little sporting event.”

Some of you - steering this back to sports sort of - may remember a 70s movie called “Black Sunday,” one in the long line of that decade’s disaster films that everyone knew. In that case, terrorists tried to use the Goodyear blimp to blow up the Super Bowl while the game was going on. I think you may can view it on YouTube and it’s pretty ridiculous, but for the timeframe it was a pretty harrowing tale.

We’ll also consider that the French Quarter has effectively became a crime scene that is going to take about a day to clear out. When the Marathon bombing happened it took nearly 12 hours before the FBI would allow the deceased to be removed.

The point being is that much of the party district of the city is closed off and they are trying to determine if there are more suspects out there. The game needed to be postponed while the FBI can ensure there isn’t something bigger going on.

If things really are that bad in New Orleans, couldn't they just move the game to say Baton Rouge or something?

I also tend to think sensitivity played into it. That's why I brought up the UGA student. Somebody may have said "Oh, maybe we better not play today because it may appear we don't care about the student".

If you want to go to game; the secondary ticket market prices have crashed
Yeah I feel bad for the people that spent a couple grand to go down there for a few days then are flying back tomorrow. I am sure most people are scrambling to get hotels for another night changing airline tickets, and work and family issues with the game not playing tonight. It probably te right decision if they think there other people attached to this attack but still lot of issues with moving it back a day.

According to WMC channel 5 in Memphis, surveillance footage captured three men and one woman placing IED‘s in the French Quarter.

And that is why your game has been postponed.

Like I said SAIC probably had more information than the Sugar Bowl and mayor of New Orleans and was dictating what was going to happen
