I am a UNA alumni....and i think this is a great hire. UNA is an elite D2 program that usually goes deep in the playoff's. UNA has an explosive offense and score alot of points. Usually Braley Stadium clears out after halftime because the score is so lop sided. We won three national championship in nineties. Here recently we just cannot get past the semifinals. Plus we host the National Championship for D2 football in Florence, Alabama. The only thing UNA has been missing is a defense and I think Terry can bring that to UNA and return them to the National Title Game. Go Lions!!!!!!

Being that it's UNA football, does anyone really care? Most of the people at their games are there to see the band.
UNA has a very good following for a division 2 program, especially considering when most of there games are played during Alabama or the barn games. I am torn with this hire. Being a college student and living in Muscle Shoals I pull for UNA, but it is weird knowing I am pulling for a former Barn coach. Oh well I like my local team more then I hate my rival I guess. Roll Tide and Roar Lions.

Good hire... I was hoping for a return of Bobby Wallace... I grew up playing baseball with his son... Super nice guy...

I had heard that Coach Hud's staff is on the payroll for at least the next year... That was the reason that Bobby Wallace took his name out of consideration so fast... At least I didn't hear Hal Mumme's name out there this time... Before they hired Coach Hud, Mumme was thought to be one of the leading candidates...

It will be kind of weird cheering for Terry coaching the Lions...

I am sure they will be entrenched in some tough recruiting battles with the barn over the next few years :)

For those asking, the previous coaching staff is on payroll untill next year. The ad said they would be on staff for the next season, but I guess things could change? How it looks now though Bowden will not be hiring his own staff.

I guess those who don't have dealings on an academic level or aren't geographically near the college don't share the same disdain for it that I do. It seems that the culture surrounding UNA has a very "snooty" attitude toward other colleges in the state, Alabama in particular (and I can't understand why--they have nothing to offer that the Capstone hasn't already topped). Any college whose crowd (what little there is) cheers when the Crimson Tide is announced as losing (this includes UAB, too) is, in my view, an enemy of the University of Alabama and, since I graduated from UA, an enemy of mine.

I think it's good hire but , just remember the only thing you'll see smaller than tiny will be the paper weight RB's he recruits . Where are Rusty Williams and Demontrey Carter when they're finally needed :rolleye2:

Bobby Wallace coached under Dye at Awbarn and took UNA to an NCAA record 3 straight national titels. He was the coach who recruited Bo Jackson to the barn. Just saying.

I'm from Florence, grew up going to UNA football & basketball games (UNA has won 2 NCAA basketball titles and 3 NCs in a row in football - another NCAA record), and have many family and friends who graduated from there and have never witnessed this "snooty attitude" of which you speak. Nor have I ever heard the school cheering in unison against Alabama. It sounds like you have a personal axe to grind against UNA or maybe you cannot handle the fact that UNA was founded in 1830 (1 year before the Capstone) - whatever it is, you are spewing untruths about a very fine univeristy and making no sense at all. An enemy? Whatever dude.

I thought it was an interesting hire.

If Tater Tot can come in and continue putting good teams on the field with the Lions and make playoffs, I, for one, don't care where he comes from. He'll have his chance like anyone else to "see if he's still got it". It he stinks it up, he'll stay for a few years, then get moved on. If he wins big, he'll start looking at going back into D1 in a few.

In the mean time, I'm interested in seeing what he can do.

After "sleeping on it" I just can't get excited (in a positive way) about this hire.

1 - He hasn't coached in OVER 10 YEARS
2 - Hewalked away from his last coaching gig IN MID-SEASON
3 - His recruiting at the Barn was 'questionable' to be generous
4 - He was so dedicated and serious about his last job that the story is he once he left practice early to go see a James Taylor concert

Funny quote from a UNA message board:

I wanted a splash and we got a tidal wave! AP is already running the story with a map showing where UNA is located. We now have the second biggest coach in the state. Sorry Auburn.

Terry Bowden has the arrogance without the ability. I will never forget the remark he made after getting the barn job, "Im gonna break Bear Bryants record while I'm at auburn".

This is only a stop for him, I give it 1 season, then if he is sucessful, he will be at a bigger school. He really wasn't a bad coach, but made some off field bad decisons which cost him his job.

Agreed, he will only be at UNA long enough until he wins 10 games then off to somewhere else.
