The 2009-10 Coaching Carousel Has Begun--Tommy West First

The word through the grapevine in Memphis...from the sister-of-law of the pool boy for the cousin of the guy who gets his haircut at the same place the Memphis AD goes...is that Phillip Fulmer will be the next coach at Memphis. He'll serve as coach 2 days a week and spend the other 5 secretly policing recruiting in the area for the NCAA.

No way that can happen. That doesn't leave him any time for spending time at the Krispy Creame.

I thought Harbaugh burned his Michigan bridges with some comments he made about Michigan or Lloyd Carr a couple of years ago. IMO he would be a good hire for UM and Brian Kelly to ND. Those two hires would shake up the Big 11.

With no connections whatsoever, I have heard rumblings of Tater Tot going to West Virginia after this season. I know West Virginia is not vacant yet but possibly could be.

Oompa Loompa Bowden would be a disaster in Division I all over again. He nearly ran the barn program into the ground. Tommy "the right place at the right time" Tuberville had recruiting class after recruiting class handed to him for five straight years, and it still took that long to mean something.

He belongs in the FCS, forever and ever, Amen.

You know, I could see that. Hadn't thought of that one, but the Bowden family has a lot of ties there. I do think Memphis will make a run for him though.

Jim Harbaugh is looking like a pretty good candidate for somebody, but I'm not sure he's ready for the Big Time at UM yet. Maybe another year at Stanford, he might be ready.

I'm honestly not sure how well he'd do at a big time school, and plenty of people suspect he's just been riding the success of Toby Gerhart. He's a great recruiter, but he might be a little too involved with winning the approval of the fanbase to translate his current approach over to a school like UM. Besides, he focuses on power running and solid defense, which has clearly not been the direction RR has taken. With their recent recruiting, I'm not sure anyone can come in there and succeed in the first two years unless they're a spread guy.

But Harbaugh's stock probably goes down when Gerhart heads to the NFL, so he'd be smart to consider his options at year's end. I both hope and suspect that he will stay around.

Re: ***tommy west - must see video***

You have to watch this video...not your typical post-firing press conference. Tommy West basically goes off and calls Memphis a crappy program. Too funny! Gets good at about 50 second mark and then gets really good about the 1:30 mark.

Tommy West fired, and fired up

Can't say that I disagree with him about the coverage in the Memphis paper (Commercial Appeal).

Talk about a rant. He basically called out the fans, the school, the AD. If half of what he complained about is true, Tommy Tuberville would feel right at home.

West's rant was interesting, to say the least, because he has a lot of credibility with 9 years invested there. I have a feeling he most know what Coach went through at Kentucky in the 50s, playing second fiddle to basketball.

I kind of hope Kelly and Harbaugh get their chances at ND and Michigan, if nothing more then NOT make them available for some future SEC openings.

Having your head coach attend and speak at the press conference announcing his own firing is just so off the wall bizarre to me. They did that with Franchione at Texas A&M and it ended badly. This one was just as strange and uncomfortable.

Why parade a dead man walking out like that.. and then give him an opportunity to basically shin-kick your program??
